2010 TT build date delay

My dealer was inputting my order into the system, and for option XUA (Spoiler Lip Painted), it says it's only available after 2/7/10. which could stink for me as i had a january production slot. however, the dealer mentioned there might be a workaround and/or this may be an old note and the car could indeed be built in january with this. going to get back to me on this after talking to headquarters. anyone run into this or have any thoughts? and if the workaround is to have the dealer paint it after it arrives, should i be comfortable with that (will paint be identical match)? thanks.

Don't waste your time OR your money. This is such an easy thing to do AFTER delivery.

Just go without, then have it painted after you pick it up for half the factory option price (or less). Don't go to a dealer for paint. Buy your car there, have it serviced there if you like, but go to a pro for paint.

Don't even think twice about it. You will probably put something else on once you have it anyways. I have a techart lip on mine and I paid to have mine painted at the factory which was a waste.

Agreed with the advice of not painting the front lip. 2 reasons:
1. It's going to get scratched and you will need to re-paint. No need to get factory paint here.
2. You may find out, like some of us have, that the front lip of the Turbo is thin and flimsy looking and makes the car's front end look "weak." In that case, you will want to replace the lip. Don't paint the front and use the money towards the Techart lip.

I painted my car's side and rear lip, but not the front, then replaced the front with the beautiful Techart lip:

that option is $640, would it really be that much cheaper to do it after the fact by a pro? and i should have no worries about it matching perfectly? (as you can tell, i don't have experience with aftermarket paint jobs).

Yes, it would be less expensive than $640, and the paint would match just fine -- if done by a reputable outfit. Definately do this after delivery. You may even want some interior pieces painted as well -- though BumperPlugs has good options there.

definitely skip it, not worth the extra $$$$$, plus it really does scrape EVERYWHERE.

very helpful, thanks. it sounds like the techart lip you mention is of higher quality. given all of the comments about how much the lip will get scraped/chipped, is the techart lip less susceptible to those problems? and why can't i find a techart website - please provide. thanks!

Obviously for me it was cheap - I have painters and booth standing by at any time.

But....just so you know. The Arctic Turbo came with no lowers painted. Not only did we do them all perfectly flawless, but we spent TWO freaking days on the formula. There are some tricks to doing the lowers. You do NOT use the same formula as the rest of the car, that is why you want a pro shop who does this often, they will know this.

We had 9 sprayout formulas for Arctic, all factory variants, yet we ended up tweaking one of them and mixing it to our taste just to be 100% sure. Yeah, I'm ****. But that's how it is.

And the lowers all look perfect on the Turbo.

I don't think you'll spend half the factory option price to get this done right on that lip.

And if Cannga hangs that damn beauty out there one more time I might have to smack him into next week. That is one of the BEST LOOKING Porsches I have ever seen!

Ah unfortunately, yes and no. The Techart lip is of the highest quality and is very pretty (to me), but it does get scratched also, no less than the stock lip.

All I meant to point out is that that the Porsche factory front lip is $150 and it's not worth spending so much to get the "factory" paint, because unlike the rest of the car, that front lip takes a lot of hits from every where (pavement and road debris) and needs repainting anyway.
And second, that stock front lip is very thin and flimsy (to my eyes, THE weakest design element of the car, right after the weirdly trapezoidal shaped exhaust tip ) and you may want to replace it. Not a good idea to spend 500+ if you are going to replace it.

If matching is a concern: My Techart front lip is painted by a US paint shop and you cannot tell the paint apart. It is a 100% EXACT match if done by a competent shop. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun.

Eric: Ha ha ha. And so is your beautiful convertible (I LOVE the look of turbo convertibles.). "Eclou" used to do the same to me by posting pic of his Turbo with the Techart lip. I finally gave in.

thanks. i like the looks of your techart lip as well. will it work with a 2010? how much was it? and do you buy directly from them or a US distributor? and if you could point me in the right direction or a website, that would be awesome.

my plastic front disposable lip gets scratched all of the time, a yearly replacement

so for me the painted front would drive me nuts with all of those scratches

eric (bumperplugs) can respray his at will, but for me it just wouldnt work

just my 2 cents

The price? Grab a chair and sit down first please.
It is a sobering $2350 for the front lip alone. Very rarely a piece would turn up on ebay for less than MSRP; and that's how I got mine.
Even if I hadn't found it on ebay, I would have purchased one as the stock front lip was looking worse every day for me . When you have the car, you'll see what I mean. It's very think and flimsy looking. In comparison the Techart is simply BEAUTIFUL to look at. I still stare at it now once in a while! LOL.

The distributor for Techart is CEC I think: http://www.cecwheels.com/tuners-7/TechArt
You could also get it from a Techart dealer such as Vivid Racing:
http://www.cecwheels.com/tuners-7/TechArt
See if someone could work with you on the price, maybe a discount to 2000 or something. Does not hurt to ask.

Is it just the lip you want painted? or the exterior package, rockers, ect? Most of the time it includes other items. I have had much exp: here. I cant believe that this option would hold up production. REALLY sounds like bull to me. The lip will get damaged so get over that I am on my third one, they are about $230 and to paint them all you need id the paint code for the body shop. (ly3j) for example. Mine was a little tough to find because it was not a stock color.

emturbo has a spectacular aura aboutemturbo has a spectacular aura about
mine is painted and shows plenty of battle damage from rock chips and steep driveways. I've only got 7500 miles on my 08 and it's hard to scratching the lip. I think it still looks better, but don't worry about getting done from the factory. easy for a dealer/shop to do.
