Given the 997.2 Turbo is just coming out as a '10, I don't think we'll see the next Turbo until '12, one year behind the regular 998.

I think it will be a longer wait . The 996 and 993 did not have a Turbo refresh and both cars had at least one model year of a Turbo hiatus. (no 993 Turbo in 98,99,00 -- and no 996 Turbo in model year 2006) . BTW --usually during the year of the absent Turbo the resale prices tend to climb.

Now it's true that the entire auto industry has changed and so has Porsche but i can not see a refresh which doesn't have a two year run . In fact many dealerships still have 2009 cars and with inventory like that a complete redesign too soon would leave them with a lot of cars.

That said --I'll take a guess at 2012 offering the 998 and 998S normallt aspirated models . I wish Porsche would only make ONE rather than two and price it in the middle rather than these huge discounts seen lately.
2013 would be the Turbo and as long as I am guessing it woild be nice to see the return of a Turbo S with very limited production if the car is a success.

As for the 7 speed manual --hard to say . Fuel economy is an issue of priority . I am shifting manually with my 7 speed PDK and I got used to it but there is more shifting . I wonder if the manual wil have launch control and if cosmetic options would include texture (like matte) along with color choices .

This Porsche 911 model line continues to thrive through decades and it's future success is something I look forward to .

The NA 991 will be a MY2012 which will debut at the IAA Sept 2011. The 991 turbo will likely be a MY2013 (maybe later), which would debut a year earlier; 2012 in this example, if it follows historical standards and debuts a year after the 991 Carreras.

If the 7 speed happens, it'll mostly be for fuel economy reasons. Porsche has said that they do not want to abandon the manual anytime soon. With VW in the picture, who knows. I will bet that we'll see a seven speed and no it won't be to the left of first gear; something tells me it would come after six.

Speculation:
  •
    • debut at IAA 2011
    • shorter overhangs (especially at the front)
    • much more accentuated C-pillar
    • wider rear
    • wheelbase + 10 cm
    • center of gravity moves more to the middle of the car
    • roomier cabin, especially in the rear
    • new suspension + aluminium chassis
    • better stability at high speed / improved aerodynamics
    • rear spoiler á lá Panamera
    • generally more quality materials in the interior
    • less, but larger switches / central switch concept á lá BMW/AUDI
    • new steering wheel/paddle design
    • torque vectoring
    • 7 speed manual gearbox
    • electronic servo steering
    • keyless go
    • automatic start/stop engine system, brake energy generator
    • electronic parking brake
    • weight: minus 40 kg compared to 997
    • 19" wheels (Carrera), 20" wheels (Carrera S)
    • Carrera engine: 3.4 L / 350 hp / 350 nm
    • Carrera S engine: 3.8 L / 400 hp / 440 nm
    • Engine sound: less noisy under partial load, more “sonorous” under full load
    • Fuel consumption: minus 10% compared to 997

Hey guys, I think this is describing PDK, not manual -- look at the reference to paddles on the steering wheel...

I don't think so, otherwise it wouldn't be descirbed as a manual. Also, PDK w/7 gears has already been around so why announce it again.

Seventh gear will likely be very tall, but six closely matched gears might be nice.

So will they have to rename this web site if they go to a 7 spd manual? Hehe.
