Next generation 998 Turbo

Folks-

Information borrowed from folks at Rennteam and from Porsche. This would be the 991 and (998?) turbo. Looks like an Audi front end (or VW as others have said). Interested in feedback...

Speculation:
  •
    • debut at IAA 2011
    • shorter overhangs (especially at the front)
    • much more accentuated C-pillar
    • wider rear
    • wheelbase + 10 cm
    • center of gravity moves more to the middle of the car
    • roomier cabin, especially in the rear
    • new suspension + aluminium chassis
    • better stability at high speed / improved aerodynamics
    • rear spoiler á lá Panamera
    • generally more quality materials in the interior
    • less, but larger switches / central switch concept á lá BMW/AUDI
    • new steering wheel/paddle design
    • torque vectoring
    • 7 speed manual gearbox
    • electronic servo steering
    • keyless go
    • automatic start/stop engine system, brake energy generator
    • electronic parking brake
    • weight: minus 40 kg compared to 997
    • 19" wheels (Carrera), 20" wheels (Carrera S)
    • Carrera engine: 3.4 L / 350 hp / 350 nm
    • Carrera S engine: 3.8 L / 400 hp / 440 nm
    • Engine sound: less noisy under partial load, more “sonorous” under full load
    • Fuel consumption: minus 10% compared to 997

I looks very much like a VW Beetle. I'm sure it will be beautiful in person though.

Looks nice. I'd prefer the lower front section to be body colored though.

I am really wondering if the "7 speed manual" is an actual manual transmission. My face will drop the first time I ever see a stick-shift with 8 gears to go into, .

/\ /\ +1

Atleast painting the vertical dividers in the lower portion will get rid of that smiley face look. First comparison that comes to mind is . Could just be the color though.

I agree, who want's a roomier cabin? And I doubt they mean stick shift 7 speed, I bet it's the PDK automated manual.

These specs are clearly for the 991. The 991 turbo will follow a year later; probably about 550 hp.

I guess it's possible if they want to make 6 useable gears and one dedicated overdrive gear. But that will be a lot of shifting, and what would the H-pattern shifter look like then.

Lots of missed shifts and searching around for gears. That is the primary reason I say it's not going to happen. Not user friendly enough.
