Cab owners regret and want a coupe?
I'm on my 3rd 911 Cab, presently in a '09 Turbo Cab. No regrets whatsoever. It's actually the opposite for me. I'm just a convertible person. I recently had an Aston Martin Vantage coupe, drove it for about a year, and just found the fixed roof a bit claustrophobic. I've just grown accustomed to a more visceral driving experience that the convertible offers. You can't beat having the top down on a sunny cool day, listening to the growl of the engine as you slice through the air whilst driving down your favorite stretcg of road. Stay the course...you won't regret it!
all depends on the weather....
I went to college in Hawaii. No doubt a cab all the way!!!
Not too hot, not too cold most days.
90% cab days... awesome.
I live in St Louis. Most days >80% are too hot or too cold. I must say, it looks funny to see many cab owners really push it with the top down and all bundled up and freezing just to keep the top down in September. And most of the summer, I know for sure that they are sweating in their seats and I can even see beads of sweat rolling down their heads.
So, after a coupe...convertible...(now) coupe, I must say that I am once again happy. Visibility is better (top up has a horrible blind spot), and I don't feel like I paid an extra 12-15k for a convertible that I use <20% of the year.
So for me, in STL, I can't really see the benefit of a cab (unless you value the cab feeling so much that the 20% cab days make it worth the additional cost of a cab).
Oh and by the way, I really missed the sun roof. I have this pull back about 70% of the time. Even in the winter. I like the additional sunlight the it provides. I just turn on the heater.
Enjoy!!!

I have ordered a 2010 cab. I have never owned a convertible and very excited about having one. Like most first time convertible buyers, I think there is a natural concern about noise, wind, etc when the top is up (I am not worried about structural integrity/stiffness as I don't plan on tracking the car). I test drove one and found it to be just fine with the top up. But that was only for about 15 minutes. So for those that have bought a cab, after time, was there any regret and wishing you had the coupe? I should be able to get a lot of top down days in April-Oct, some in March and Nov, and presumably zero in Dec-Feb. Thanks!
If you use the heating options properly, you can stay warm in very chilly conditions. Ya got to ditch the auto mode and select feet, middle and wind screen plus seat heaters.......Toasty all the time.
I love mine and traded out of a coupe to get it. I'd never go back.

No regrets here especially the soft top is so solid when closed, absolutely no rattles, and the cabin is draft free when the top is lowered with the wind screen in place. Two thumbs up.
I just traded a cab for a coupe. I loved the top down except in city traffic and on the freeway which unfortunately was too common in my circumstance. My top leaked which I'm sure could have been fixed but the thing which bothered me most was that the folding creases were worse than any comparable top I had seen. They were turning into fabric tears and not covered under warranty. It made the whole car look tired. Replacement is very expensive.

Went from a 996 Turbo Coupe to 997 S Cab to a 997 Turbo Cab.
I really love my cab & honestly can't see going back to a 911 Coupe. In NY there's only 2 months where I don't use the Top; Jan & Feb. The rest of the year has days that are awesome convertible weather, unless you're a sensitive skinned girly man
. The Spring & Fall are especially fun, the best for Cabs. There's nothing like being out on a nice day or cool night with the top down. The advantages of a Cabriolet run deep while the only disadvantage imo is it's not as sharp looking as the coupe w/ the cab top up. But this is eay to overcome because imo the Cabriolet is cooler looking than the Coupe with the top down. In terms of rattles, the only ones I've experienced were with my 911 Coupe : the sunroof,,, which I never could get sorted out.
Depending on the weather & your speeds, it's easy to control how much wind you want in the car with the side windows & wind deflector. You're probably going to be pleasantly surprised by the calmness in the cabin with windows up, deflector in place even at pretty significant speeds.
The Cabs are just so much more fun, you can change on the fly based on the weather & your mood, the coupe is more one dimensional.
In my experience - You'll have Coupe owners giving you reasons for buying a coupe, their perceived negatives of a Cabriolet but you'll not find very many OWNERS of both 911 Coupe's & Cabriolet's offering the same advise. It's not a feeling that easily summed up with words, you'll see...
GREAT LUCK w/ your car..

The feedback has been great and very helpful. Definitely makes me feel more comfortable with going the cab route. The one area there wasn't much feedback on was the longevity and appearance over time of the top. The comment below is the last thing I worry about (not worrying anymore about rattles, wind noise, etc). Does the top wear, discolor, look "tired", etc, which could then make the whole car look worn? Are there tricks to keeping it looking new? Have the tops changed and have been improved over the years? Between work and the house, my car will be garaged most of the time. My top is black (ruby red exterior). Thanks.
Now I'm just rambling on....

I'm looking for another TT coupe, but I'll keep the Boxster to have a drop top. Maybe you should do the same?
Dave
Top looks great after 8 years. I typically garage the car and take something else when it is snowing. My car does see rain and I am diligent about taking care of the Eisenglass in my rear window with a conditioner. You wouldn't have to worry about that since you will have real glass.

If there were problems with the tops, you'd have heard about them, over and over and over again! I am sure webtool1 had issues with his. But it seems like his was the exception, not the rule.
When does your new tt arrive?
my order is in, my deposit is down. waiting for pcna to give allocations for the second half of their fiscal year (feb-july). it's been due "any day" for the past two weeks. hoping to get a feb build which would mean a late march or april delivery.
It all depends on your weather...
So, how much you enjoy your cab will depend on the weather. If it's nice out most of the time, get the convertible and you'll be very happy. It it's either too hot all the time, too cold all the time or it rains to much, don't waste your money on a cab. My two cents.
