Cab owners regret and want a coupe?
Cab owners regret and want a coupe?
I have ordered a 2010 cab. I have never owned a convertible and very excited about having one. Like most first time convertible buyers, I think there is a natural concern about noise, wind, etc when the top is up (I am not worried about structural integrity/stiffness as I don't plan on tracking the car). I test drove one and found it to be just fine with the top up. But that was only for about 15 minutes. So for those that have bought a cab, after time, was there any regret and wishing you had the coupe? I should be able to get a lot of top down days in April-Oct, some in March and Nov, and presumably zero in Dec-Feb. Thanks!
I don't know where you live but if Texas, where I live wasn't so freakin hot, I would have a cab. cABS

+ one for that.... enough said.... i on my second as well, if it is nice, then you will drop the top....60 or better for me, during the day....
After a long string on Porsche Coupes (944 Turbo S, 928 GT, 993 C4, 993 Turbo, 996 Ruf R Turbo, 996 GT2, 997 GT3 RS) I got my first cab about a month ago. After a 1,000 miles +/- I can tell you I have no regrets. I rarely drive it with the top up, but did today and can tell you it is not a quiet as a coupe, but who cares!
It is the first time in a long time I can remember having a car that I go out and get into just for the pleasure of driving, I simply don't care where I am going, I just enjoy driving the car.
I got the idea this summer when my friend needed to borrow our Suburban and left his 997 Carrera cab with me for a few days. I drove it around a bit, took the kids, then the wife took it for a spin and she loved it as well. She had not driven any of the cars since I modified the 996 TT to Ruf spec and lowered it. The GT2 and RS fit the same mold, she did not want to deal with curb stops and driveways. We sold the RS, since with a Cup car I felt it was somewhat redundant. She said after driving the 997 cab, your next Porsche needs to be a cab!
So here it is with no regrets.

I guess I'm the only dissenting voice...but I had a 996 Cab...it was terrific on beautiful days and if I lived in a warm climate it would be ideal...but the visibility was awful, it was loud and frankly I never really got used to having a convertible Porsche.
So I went with a coupe this time and I would never go back.
I bought a dedicated convertible (non Porsche) for those perfect weather days and the coupe for the rest of the year.
Frankly you could probably pick up a sweet 996 cab for the price difference between a 997TT and 997TT Cab...that's the route I would go...best of both worlds...but that has drawbacks as well of course.
Good luck...you can't make a wrong decision on this one.

Guys, these comments have been great. And there is no better validation than those of you that are on your 2nd or 3rd cab. Clearly driving with the top down is something that is of huge value to you and you are not willing to give it up. Let me ask the question a different way though: with the top up, how is the drive? Noisy? Windy? Big/small/no difference? Thanks.
Non-TT owner here, but I just had to chime in with my experience about my '09 cab. I had my first long trip, a 300 mile round trip of hwy miles, and had 0 regrets/issues about the top noise or wind causing funny noises, etc. I'm happy and I'd buy the cab again.
