DME Scan Advice
DME Scan Advice
I got the DME scan and I am a bit concerned with the numbers:
Range 1 359ignitions 55.9 h
Range 2 110 ignitions 55.9 h
Range 3 54 ignitions 45.6h
Range 4 21 ignitions 45.6 h
no range 5 or 6
103 hrs total
Your thoughts? Isn't range 3 and 4 bad especially this early? Car has 4000 miles.
Thanks

there are 300 ignitions per second at 6,000rpm's..that is less than .2 seconds for type 3 and 4 and they occured 50 hours ago...if the leak down/compression test is good I wouldn't worry...
Things to note.
1. 103 hours is pretty low use for 4000 miles, suggesting more freeway use than street use.
2. 4000 miles on the odometer. Relatively new car. 2000 miles should be break-in. While everyone breaks in a car differently, I have an issue with a Range 4 over rev at 45.6 hours. This car was probably not broken in using Porsche's guidelines in the manual. Not everyone is going to agree...but I personally believe in some break in time. I know the engines are dynoed in Germany before installation. I know the cars are given some workout before shipping...but I still think early on in the engines life, some caution needs to be taken. Not everyone is going to agree.
3. Range 1 and 2 probably occurred because the tach climbed faster than the driver anticipated...not uncommon for newbie 997TT owners.
My guess is car is fine, although the engine may not have been broken in using Porsche's guidelines. Take that with grain of salt.

Thank you for that insightful analysis!
Not that it matters but I got word of "assurance" from the porsche mechanic that it's not a big deal but still makes you wonder. the car will be cpo'ed so it will have warranty until 3/2014 so hopefully it won't cause too much problems.

You may want to call Porsche NA and ask them what their criteria is for CPO'ing a car. I was unaware that they would CPO any cars with anying more than Range 2. But heck, what do I know.
