Carson, congrats and I'm looking forward to seeing your new car. I guess you'll have to tell your co-workers that you bought some new wheels for the turbo.

If anyone cares about our opinion... We were absolutely floored by the out of the box performance... the way the car makes boost and it's overall refinement. If we werent getting a Boxster Spyder in the next month we would pick one up for development. Luckily we have Carson's to work on. the Ecu tune is already in the works!

"Not as different as I expected". is this comparing your '07 WITH it's mods? if so, then that speaks very highly of the new TT.

It's still a Porsche!
This all comes down to tranny and for most the new PDK will fit the bill, its easier to use, you can drive it in traffic, pretend you know how to drive on weekends, impress your friends and wife, get off the line quickly with a bunch of gadgets, probably toss your trans at some point from all the abuse, and it will never equal the pleasure of a 6-speed.

IMO, the PDK takes all the skill out of driving and I feel really bad for kids generation, they have no clue what they will be missing when they are old enough to drive.

Wow. Most people would be happy just to have one TT. But to have two TT's to choose from that's something else. Oh I am so envious

I have never used the launch control in my PDK car. I do believe it will pull off the line better than a human clutch release . Also there is ZERO mis shift or over rev . There is something to be said for this . The driver still has choices of interraction wherby he can override gear selection with paddles or select different modes ranging from normal (traffic) to sport plus (track) .

I do believe PDK will evolve too and it's not perfect either . The flaws of the manual will reveal the strength of the PDK but the strength of the manual also bring out the flaws of PDK.

One big gripe on normally aspirated forum is that in sport auto mode there is an abrupt downshift to 1st gear from second . another gripe is taht normal auto is too boring . Thse topics get debated and there are counter opinions .

It's kinda hard to think that one can compete with this ?

sure the pdk can shift a split second faster than a skilled human. but on street who cares and on the track im not sure if pdk is the way to go either. stick isn't much of a pain in traffic , for me atleast. one thing though is that stick is much more involving and fun. i recently traded in a gallardo SL "PDK" type for a gt2 and havent looked back since. i definately see a more casual driver getting pdk until they make it standard like a ferrari. just my .02 cents

Few things -

1) I am not trying to preach the PDK to anyone . In fact my position is that I like both manual and PDK equally. I have both and would not trade either .
Just as i would call the "PDK only" philosophers on the merrits of manual I will equally call out the "manual only" on the merrits of PDK .

That said --

1) In gridlock traffic there is absolutely no debate that PDK is better . It can be driven much liuke an automatic and if one is going 0-20 -0 for an hour there is ZERO need to press a clutch and call it fun.

2) The big track eye opener was the impressive numbers of the GTR and Porsche obviously went to work on this . The Gt3 and Gt3 RS are not PDK cars yet because the dry sump engine would not accomodate the PDK so the transition will take more time . When the next gen models come out one might guess that PDK will be on the track models too.

one thing though is that stick is much more involving and fun. i recently traded in a gallardo SL "PDK" type for a gt2 and havent looked back since. i definately see a more casual driver getting pdk until they make it standard like a ferrari.
1) Both the Lamborgini and Ferrrai are not going to shift with the precise smoothness of the PDK despite their higher price tags , impressive designs, and respectable track numbers . The transmission engineering is NOT identical with Porsche and thus the drive will be different .

2) Driver involvement can be defined in many ways . There is something arguably special in the traditional manual box . Although simplistic in contrast it is nonetheless timeless . However -one can not diminish the success of PDK and judge its value until he spends driving time in the car . I have had mine for 7 months. I am still learning . I even welcome the evolution of the PDK as this is only the first .

PDK Porsche production cars are still in its infancy and in this short time it has shaken the opinions of many who were manual drivers because the driving experience speaks for itself . All it takes is a bit of willingness to keep an open mind and spend some time with the car .

Yrrallis1, I agree completely. Until you have driven the PDK/DCT or even the tip for that matter for more than a test drive I believe it is very hard to form a decision. A funny thing happened saturday at the pca corral at the rolex 24. I was standing by my car talking to the gentelman who owned the car next to me and up came three guys looking at my turbo and after looking at it and commmenting about all the nice options one of them said and I qoute " I hate seeing a very nice car like that with a auto transmission". You just can not change some peoples mindset that is why there are choices to be made by the owner. By the way the race was great as well as the pca parking.

Congrats on the new TT! Personally I think the rear shot of your old one is far better...the illusion of more width than the 997.2, due to the shape of the new taillights and the OEM laterally curved exhaust. I'm sure it's a phenomenal car, but I think they should have made a few more visual changes c/w the .1, especially at the front.

The simple answer is yes. I expect it to be even worse when DE day comes this spring.

I loved the way the 07 looks, particularly with carbon gray track wheels. When I went to order the 10, I didn't see any other color scheme that I liked better although blue was considered.
