Install Pics of a Clutch Job on a 997TT
Had a customer bring their 997TT in for a clutch job. Already modified with a Tubi Exhaust, Werks One Airbox, and ECU Flash, his clutch did not need to be replaced right now, but its engagement was a huge problem and it was starting to slip. One of his most important requirements was the driveability. The clutch in his car was a Sachs Stage 2 with a 8 puck designed disk. This made the engagement in 1st gear very hard to drive. I actually test drove the car and it was night and day different to my 997TT.
Like we have on our 997TT and have used in so many 996TT, we went with the Clutch Masters Stage 3 Full Disk. This clutch is rated at 800HP but because it has a full disk, its engagement is very easy to use. The clutch uses Clutch Masters Fiber Tough material on the flywheel side which is less abrasive but just as strong as kevlar. Built off of Sachs original components, this clutch has always been a popular choice. With a price tag of around $1600, it does not hurt the feelings either! This car we choose to leave the stock dual mass flywheel in even after explaining the benefits and disadvantages of the lightweight flywheel. At the end of the day, the customer was extremely impressed with the difference of the cars driveability.

Clutch New in Box Ready for Install

The patient on the lift. 2007 997TT. BTW awesome carbon and red interior!

Tranny Removed... Dont get hosed with extra labor when they tell you that you have to drop the motor!

Removing the stock 8pucker.

Bring Her Down!

All put back together.

nice job, quick question, you mentioned his clutch didnt need to be replaced however it was starting to slip....are you saying that its due to his mods or because of his driving style?? Just wondering why it would start slipping unless there actually was an issue with the clutch itself, please clarify
You could feel a tiny bit of slip in 4th gear. But once the clutch was out, you could see it was ready to be replaced. It was really replaced because of the hard to use engagement.

Thanks for the info, tough to tell from the pic, but one other question, was this due to his driving style or because of the mods???
The car was bought used with this already. The mods are definitely a culprit but really again cause of the engagement. His driving style is mainly around town and autoX type events.
Huh, honestly I thought it would be harder to do a clutch swap on a 997 turbo. Then again the pics probably make it look easier than it really is

What are the hours of labor quoted to replace the clutch?
I have about 3500 miles on my 6 speed 2007 tt...I have a exhaust, headers and chip...mostly standard driving with some auto cross. I have not been at the track yet. Engagement is fine but it has a load chattering sound when in gear...when i push in the clutch to chatter stops. Would you know what is wrong? My old 996tt also had a stage 4 and went to the track 20 times and no issue with clutch with 30000 miles on it.
Excellent product knowledge & customer service 2nd to none!
Dan & Jeff were both great to deal with. These guys take the time to listen to the customer & deliver on their promise to get it right!
Clutch pedal modulation is very good & a major improvement on driving the car. Looking forward to taking the car back for dyno-run after taking some time to wear in the new clutch.
The Vivid blue 997tt has the same clutch system & which handles explosive power! That car has over 800bhp & doesn't slip, so I'm confident that Vivid (Dan & Jeff's) recommendation/install will work well in my car.
