It's hard to break the camshaft, but it's easier to damage the surface of the lobes.

Isn't it possible to use durametric to engage and disengage the variocam
(cam position sensor solenid) so you can check it?

Had my Cam replaced (bank2) under warranty at 16k, something about one of the pieces inside blocking oil flow. Got camshaft position error codes . Porsche replaced under warranty , p.s. the warranty bill was aroun 9k. I know i am not the only one my particular issue happened too.

This sounds like the same issue that you had.

hopefully its just a cam timing sensor. I had both of my sensors replaced when I did my AWE turbo upgrade only to have one go bad after 100o miles. Ended up putting one of the old sensors in and its been good since. shouldn't take the dealer more then 1 hour to change a sensor that cost less then 100 bucks. Good Luck

I think you're looking at a new cam, I would try like hell to get some kind of goodwill, at least a sizable discount.

I've heard of this also but not very common. Yes, Keith had the same issue and resolved it with Todd K. Let us know the progress. GL

They got a chance to swap the sensors and the code changed. They are getting new sensors from the dealership tomorrow morning so they'll be able to put on new sensors and see if the problem goes away entirely.

Fingers crossed and optimistic that its just that simple!

Glad you got it covered under warranty. I hope these are isolated issues that's not associated with cars with some mileage on them.

They got the new cam sensors in today and put em in and fired up the engine and no codes came up. They are going to finish assembling the rest of the engine and then put some miles on it tomorrow morning and I should be able to pick it up before noon.

So it looks like the cam itself is ok. Phew, wasn't looking forward to a huge repair bill
