997.1 Tip vs. 6 Speed????
997.1 Tip vs. 6 Speed????
I am looking at 997.1s. My Wife has an 08 CTT right now. The 997 would be used sparingly and probably just for fun (isn't that what most are for anyway). My Wife would drive it probably more than I and that is where the Tip vs. 6 speed ??? originate. I would like the pros and cons of both. Trying to gather as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance for any info.

You will find tons of post on this same topic. I went through the same dilemma and I would strongly suggest you test drive both.
I test drove tiptronic and it was boring. Then again, I really couldn't get on it either. I made the mistake of not test driving the 6 speed. I ended up buying a manual because I found a good deal. I am finding manual to be fun but difficult to drive because I am just not used to the feel of the clutch.
The funny thing is my wife loves driving it and prob drives it better than me.
Again, my suggestion is to test drive both. If I had to do it all over, I would have just saved up for PDK...

I think most of the guys and gals on this forum would argue that you can drive a 997TT as a daily driver. Even some of the 650+ HP beasts are driven as daily drivers by the members of this forum.
As for Tip vs. 6Spd, this is an age-long debate that I just kinda don't really understand what the fuss is about. At the end of the day, go with your gut instinct on what you think you (and your wife) would like. I personally went with a 6Spd b/c I really liked the driver involvement it dictated. Do I ever wish I didn't have to row through the gears during traffic or during an occasional uphill start? Absolutely, but for me, 99 times out of 100 I'm thrilled that I have a 6Spd. I actually learned to drive a stick to buy this car.
From a performance standpoint, I believe the Tip is actually faster off the line, but I'm not racing this car at stoplights so that wasn't a concern for me. The car goes plenty fast in any variant.
I have several friends that have 997 TT or C's with a Tip and most of them like them. I've sometimes heard "I wish I bought this in a 6Spd." I seldom hear the opposite. That's just my experience.
At the end of the day, I find something highly attractive about a woman who can drive a 6Spd well. If your wife doesn't know how to drive one now, might I suggest you teach her?
The one thing you said that makes me lean towards 6Spd is that you will use this car mostly for "fun." I can tell you that, for me, driving a 6Spd vs. a Tip is more fun any day...even when there is traffic, b/c unless you live in LA, that traffic has to end some time!
If you do decide to go with the Tip, I might suggest you wait a bit and look for a car with PDK. Heck even a C4S or C2S with PDK is a very "fun" car. Some say PDK is designed for the track (where it does excel), but I've driven them and it is a GREAT everyday transmission as well.
Again, I don't think you can go wrong either way as long as you and your wife both know what you're getting into. Enjoy the purchase and good luck looking for your perfect "fun" car! Cheers!
