Front license plate install=$5
Front license plate install=$5
I installed my front plate yesterday after getting a $140 ticket going through a EZPass toll booth last year in NYC. All the normal considerations involved, from tow hook piece to drilling into the bumper to $49 Skene Design front plate mount. Don't like the offset tow hook look, and don't want to obstruct the TT radiator intakes.
I designed my own. Two "L" brackets, 3 inches by 3 inches, painted black and found in my garage. One plastic Porsche back license plate holder; came with the car. Two tiny rubber bumpers with stick'em on the the back. Two pieces of velcro. Two one inch self tapping screws that came with the cars license plate kit.
Attached L brackets to plate holder by screwing license plate to holder with L bracket underneath the license plate. Put two tiny rubber bumpers on back of L brackets so the brackets could never rub up against the car/bumper. (Waxed the crap out of the area before install) Measured the center of the car and the holder carefully, and marked where the holes for the bracket wound up underneath the bumper. This turned out to be the black plastic grill piece, not the painted bumper. Predrilled some small holes. Put two small pieces of velcro underneath the bumper just in front of these holes, with the matching velcro pieces on the L brackets. Screwed the L brackets in place. Voila. I spent $1.99 on the little rubber bumpers, everything else from paint to velcro to L brackets I had on hand.
OK. I'm cheap. But it works and looks good.
