Another Sport Chrono Question - What else does SC do?
So maybe (maybe!) I can get a 997 TT without SC for dirt cheap. But with a non-SC car and Softronic, I might be pretty satisfied... especially since the Softronic gets such great reviews.
But the question that remains...
Besides the 10 seconds of over boost and the remapping of the "go" pedal, what else would I be missing if I go without the SC button?
In another post, some one mentioned I wouldnt be getting PCM 3. What is that?

1. PSM (decreased with Sport Mode --- less intrusive)
2. PASM (increased with Sport Mode --- stiffer)
3. PTM (the 4WD system becomes more rearward bias -- more power to rear)
4. TCU -- Tiptronic (more "sporty" shift pattern)
5. ECU (increased turbo boost)
6. ETC (more responsive electronic throttle control)
Hope this helps. I think somewhere in that thread Dave (TTdude) and I also talked about the implication with tuning. It's pretty interesting I think.
This could be entirely in my head
, but I think Sport Chrono on, by making the 4wd system more rearward bias, also makes steering feel lighter, less "draggy" as could be felt in a 4WD car. YMMV.

PCM is the unit that controls nav, audio, trip, data log, tel, etc. PCM v3 added iPod and USB support. As far as SC is concerned I don't remember any differences between 2.1 & 3.
Some other functions that you get with SC are the ability to set and store personal settings, such as daytime driving lights, the "Welcome home" function, air conditioning, activation of the rain sensor and door locking. All but the "Welcome home" function are important to me.
Can you activate Sport mode without having SportChrono Package?

What about "dynamic" motor mounts or something like that? I'm pretty sure I read about that when looking through the literature on Sport Chrono. Perhaps this is a 997.2 feature only?

Hi yalmutawa, believe it or not, I had to watch the promotional DVD on the 997 Turbo (that was given to me at time of delivery of my car as a gift) to make sure that some of those functions actually exist. IIRC, a few are not discussed in our manual at all.
Try out my steering observation: I can't confirm but I think it's VERY true. I am 95% sure :-) steering is lighter and more direct with Sport Chrono on.
ItalStallion: you're correct dynamic engine mounts is 997.2 function only. I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised to see it linked with Sport Chrono though, if that's still an option for 997.2.
