It's actually swedish, here's the google translation:

Porsche 911 GT2 upgraded to 600 hp
Pär Brandt - 2010-04-21 16:43, last modified 2010-04-22 13:59
The rear-wheel drive turbo 911 GT2 is a monster pension soon finished, but Porsche will make a final upgrade. The weight scaled 100 kg and the effect increases to 600 hp! Nissan GT-R can begin to tremble ... Now we know also what model should be named: GT2 RS.

The black car is "no worse" as presented in the summer, or maybe in the fall of the Paris Motor Show. The upgraded 911 GT2 RS get 600 hp and less weight, and wider wheels and tires. Lap time of the Rings? We do not know yet ... PHOTO: Auto Media. CLICK FOR LARGER

Current-generation 911 is approaching its end of life and almost all versions have had their "facelift". The newcomer, we have seen the spy photos for quite some time and it may be longer wheelbase and more technical content, but in anticipation of it we do have a 911 version still to be upgraded: GT2.

To get lost in all the model numbers of the Porsche is quite understandable, and for To repeat the key differences is the GT2 akin to a 911 Turbo, but without four-wheel drive. The rear-wheel drive GT2: an thus has a significant weight savings (minus 145 kg), slight lull-lull, much sportier chassis setting and a little more power in the engine than the Turbo has.

It is not true of the picture but 911 GT2 RS may kolfibertak and thinner glass in the windows. All in all slimmed down to 100 kg off the already meager GT2. Also note the width of the screen are the wings, rims are wider both front and rear. PHOTO: Auto Media. CLICK FOR LARGER

The 911 GT2 available from dealers now test we drove the fall of 2008 and might please read this link . Peak power of the old classic boxer sixth grade at 3.6 liter 530 hp. That compares with 911 Turbo ( see article here ) that has 500 Nm hk/700 and Turbo S (see article at this link ) which came a few months ago and has maximum power level to the level of GT2: 530 Nm hk/700.

Despite the lack of four-wheel drive GT2 and equipment is clearly more expensive than the Turbo, just above two million, compared with 1.4 million for the Turbo. The reason why the owners happily decorate 700 000 extra, of course, the extreme level of performance, the legend Walter Röhrl has clocked GT2 at 7:31 on the Nürburgring - which is actually just a few seconds slower than he could run with the old super sports car Carrera GT.

The big problem for Porsche is However, there are some who claim that Nissan is still faster than the GT2. Specifically, GT-R has overclocked for 7:26,7, then there Corvette ZR1 at 7:26,4, and a handful of supercars around 7:20-times.

In this picture we see the new GT2 RS (black) and the current GT2 (red). As we can see, the new GT2 RS a partially redesigned rear and the front is a "splitter" a bit modified. PHOTO: Auto Media. CLICK FOR LARGER

Porsche clearly has a focus on the Nissan GT-R when you now Tune up performance at 911 GT2 "facelift". The new model presented in the summer - and will most likely named "RS" - or so we'll see it at the Paris Motor Show this autumn.

From our sources in Weissach, where the development team , and motorsports is gathered, we understand that the GT2 RS undergone an almost hysterical slimming course. There's not much to take off from the start, so to speak. But the glass panes are now thinned possible and tin roof has been replaced by a thin carbon fiber disc in the same form. It is said to have more details that have been replaced with carbon fiber for our internal songbird have heard the number "minus 100 kilograms" of the GT2 RS, which would be an achievement if it proves true.

For weight reasons, does not use double-junction box, PDK, but a standard six-speed manual box. But it may be that PDK is offered to those customers who do not have to save every kg.

From our sources in Weissach, we understood that rear wing is to be modified for the GT2 RS, which will be launched shortly. But on this car is the same wing as the usual GT2. PHOTO: Auto Media. CLICK FOR LARGER IMAGE.

Boxer engine in the GT2 comes in the direct line from the GT1-model to race at Le Mans in the late 90s. An engine which in turn had roots in legend 956/962. It's the same old engine that had been in earlier in the Turbo and GT3, not the newer "Boxster engine" which is now found throughout the 911-range. Most suggest that the GT2 facelift thus becomes the last Porsche with "GT1-engine".

GT1 engine is not easy to adapt to the Euro 5 emissions standard and it is also expensive to produce. But it has one big advantage: construction is nearly bulletproof up to 800 hp! So far, however, may not come in GT2 as there is no turbocharger with variable turbine, "VTG", which pumps so much air.

With a larger turbo than the current GT2 Porsche took aim at a peak around 560-580 hp. But our songbird in Weissach says that they reached right up to the regular 600 hp figure. In this case, a worthy conclusion to the old GT1 engine. Euro 5 will take effect from November 2010, so there can be no question of any further production of the 911 GT2 facelift.

Now it only remains to see if we get some lap times from spy photographers around the Nurburgring. 911 GT2 RS has the potential to be the fastest, gatlegala Porsche ever!

Expect that Porsche is working hard on "the Ring" and are not satisfied until you have a lap time which is clearly faster than Nissan GT-R. What do the Japanese do? PHOTO: Auto Media. CLICK FOR LARGER

Sounds like the essentials are:

GT1 block w/ bigger turbos and 600hp. 6MT standard, possible PDK option? 100kg diet...somehow? Impressive if true!

You ordering one? I am, and have been assured by Porsche Germany that I will get one.

I know it is not purist, but I will get the PDK. While that sounds silly, the paddles would be a fun change to my manual track car. I have a GT3 for the manual. I don't want to have that kind of money invested and have a Turbo S be quicker. I believe that 600 HP with a PDK will get close to Veyron numbers to a point. Plus, being the last GT1 block, we will get the ability to MOD this car.

Damn good question. I will say, and correct me if I am wrong, but they have raced the PDK long ago with the GT1 block in the first place? I thought they raced PDK in the 80's..........

Would that not also mean you could buy a PDK tranny for your 07 turbo if you wanted? Very interesting......

AFAIK, the PDK back then was used on 962's, which didn't use the GT1 block?

in any case, PDK back then would probably have little to do with today's PDK, other than the basic design concept. execution would be very different IMO.

nice if Porsche came up with PDK mated with the GT1. but given the GT1 block is about to be retired (probably,) it wouldn't make financial sense for Porsche to spend on retooling for this.

For knowing zero Swedish, I was kinda surprised that I could get the jist of the first couple paragraphs. Upgraded, 100 kilos lighter, called the gt2 'rs' , 600 bhp, compare with gt-r, etc.

Hope I can see some real pictures soon enough

I wish, but I don't have the scratch for that, and with health care reform I'm revising my future car purchase plans downward. I'll be lucky to pick up a Ford Focus in a few years, haha!
