If you due your DD with car history and a good inspection, going private party will on average save you around 10K. Similar cars with less options at local dealers were going in the high 90s.
Sounds almost exactly as my recent purchase. '07 Silver/Black w/PCCBs, original sticker $142K. The car had 8.3K miles and is in pristine shape. Private sale, no CPO - $81.3K. The warranty is up in late June so I'll be going 3rd party, likely EasyCare 5-year coverage. if you look hard enough, clean low miles TTs can be had in low 80s . . .

Very true. My tech said he has had several people not keep an eye on their pads and totally destroy their PCCBs. One of his recent customers sued Porsche over this because he said the dealer gave him the impression they PCCBs were indestructible lol. Other than the pad issue (which is standard maintenance) I have been told by several that the PCCBs are fantastic and have little to no down side other than the original option price.

As an aside, I did the Porsche driving school last week and drove cars with the steel and carbon brakes back to back on the track, and its a significant difference in fade, feel, initial bite and power. The instructors view (understand they are doing some selling) is "where else can you get $30k worth of parts for $8k."

All that and ... no brake dust.

Well I stand corrected then. My understanding was that pad replacement and general maintenance was expensive but it was just a casual understanding and I don't have pccb on my car.

If you destroy the rotors you are in trouble no doubt. But from what my tech tells me I will most likely never have to replace the rotors unless I track the car heavily, and the pads last between 2-3X longer than the steelies. So cost wise it is almost a wash. But man......... NO BREAK DUST RULES!

Not to hijack this thread, but how does one measure the pads to see if they're at 50% remaining? What's the original PCCB pad thickness?</snip></snip>

Yes, another great deal. Try to match performance, quality and looks for that price. Let's facce it we are buying these cars in almost new condition for almost 50% MSRP. I put another 8K into mods and I'm driving a super car for well under 100K.

That is the way to tell, measure pad thickness compared to original.

Don't know the #, but I know that I plan to take it to TPC once year (at least until I get my lift) and they check them. At 16k miles they said they weren't anywhere near close.

I did the same thing, CPO car, tune and suspension, and for 100k you have a car that is better than a 997.2 (6 spd).

Pretty much a no-brainer unless you have a fetish for paying an extra 50k for nice new center lock wheels I do like the new wheels

So true! It hard to beat nicely depreciated, low miles TT, price/performance vise. I have enough pennies left over to buy quality 3rd party warranty, at more then twice the length of CPO coverage.

The slippery slope is well underway . . . first on the list is exhaust. Trying to decide between FVD, AWE or Tubi. Keeping my eyes open for a nice used system.

AWE may still have their demo Gen 1 exhaust available with warranty. I almost bought it but then found a 6speeder selling a 1 yr old gen 2 exhaust for just a bit more money.
