997 Turbo S or Ferrari California?

.
If I am asked choosing between the new 458 Italia, or 430 Scuderia between the new 997 TurboS, that would make me think a little.
For the California vs the 997 turboS (esp. equipped with PDK), do not need one more second to think....
997TURBO S ALL THE WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

Man you guys are a bunch of irrational fanboys. The 997.2 looks just like a 996 to the average person.
The California looks waaaaaaaaay better, especially compared to the 997 cab, which looks like a topless frog.
I rather like some of the F cars too but cant see myself swapping a turbo Porsche for one unless perhaps for a new Ferrari 599 GTO....now thats a nice F car! The california is a bit of a big girls handbag imo. And, well...458 was awesome first time i saw it in pics but now, the more i see it the less i like it. Infact it looks kooky and odd from certain angles. I'd take a lambo anyday instead of that. Now, that 599 GTO is a tough looking car though. Have you seen it?
i like frogs. But for the average the California looks like a tuned Corvette.
...although there are a few fanboys present, who live their dream by reading magazines(with probably a few sticky pages
)and rehashing what they read to engage in pointless debates with most of us who are too busy working or driving
I noticed that upon commenting on the California, all u can mention is looks...
Well the new 997 is all about performance, while being amazingly user friendly...and having ,more than ever, the nicest *** on the planet

The thing is about Ferraris in Kuwait, a guy here bought a F430 Scud. fully loaded MY2009. Cost him USD320K.
After less than one year of use and under 7000 KM (4,350 Miles) on the Odo. and still in *MINT* condition, he's been trying to sell it for over 3 months now and asking price is USD200K CPO'ed and under warranty with no luck thus far.
I mean that car cost him USD120K to drive 4000 miles in depreciation alone!
That's just outrageous! There are limits to my insanity.

Depends what you want. If you want an 'attention' car with really expensive maintenance, get the Ferrari.
If you want performance without getting noticed too much, get the Porsche.
I still think the California looks nice.

Youre dead right. And, if someone ever steals that F badge...it could become a very expensive vette
.
Tis a nice looking car tho in black

Yep, owning a Ferrari has its pitfalls. Its really for the new car buyer that can afford to take a monumental bath and not feel it come change up time. I admit i'm just not not rich enough to be able to walk away with a smile after taking that level of beating so I guess im just a hobo in a turbo

I've been lucky enough to drive virtually all the modern Ferraris, both in the US and in Italy. The California and the Turbo S are completely different cars and cannot be directly compared in terms of their design and marketing. The California is both an engineering baseline for the future range of Ferrari cars in an environmental era and it is an entirely new type of car for Ferrari: A luxury "GT" with room for the kids that is appealing to women (who make up a very small percentage of current owners...something like 15%) and frankly also to buyers of other luxury brands like Benz and Lexus. Because Ferrari is owned by Fiat, it must simply produce more revenue and profits than it has in the past and the only way to do this- without diluting the exclusivity of the marque- is to produce a car like the California that doesn't offend purists (who are always willing to get a new toy, drive it 2000 miles and flip it for the next toy). From my experience, an AMG Benz is a less expensive barn-burner, compared to a California and can be bought for less money and delivered sooner (both cars represent roughly the same target market: Doctors, upper middle class, etc) I test drove a California in Denver and found it to be a decent car- but hardly a top-line GT like a 612 or even my 14 year old 550. Again, an AMG Benz would smoke the California and I'd have to believe the two cars would handle roughly the same on twisty state highways. The most disconcerting thing to me was the double clutch transmission. The California's acceleration from the red lighted freeway onramp we tested was what anyone might expect from a V8 Ferrari- strong, but nothing like the emotional hit from an F430 as it screams up in RPM- and the weirdest thing to me was that I had no sense of the trannie shifting until I heard it in the exhaust tone! Ferrari has gone head-over-heels with the GM magnetoheorlogical (sp?) shocks and they dull the sense of connecting to the road that I (don't) feel in both the California and the 599GTB. A Porsche Panamera is a better-made car than the California and for a fraction of the price. I would think they are comparably performing.
As for a 911 Turbo S: I owned a 2007 997 TT from February until September last year and traded it in ASAP after tracking it at Laguna Seca so I could be "in line" for the Turbo S that I believe is being built right now for me in Stuttgart. This car, with a FAST shifting PDK and the incomparable road feel of a Porsche will be everything the California's design team wishes it COULD be: A world class GT car with the ability to crank a state highway like a REAL sports car.
If I was married and wealthy enough to own a California, I'd consider it for the wife. An older driver would love the California's handling and luggage capacity. Me, I'm 56 and I want the "S" so I can go back to Laguna Seca and get even with turns 11 and that damn double apex on 2. My mediocre skill in the 997 TT left me hanging. Now, I'll have paddles and a better-tuned suspension so that clunky AWD turn-in... followed by under/oversteer wont be such a nuisance. In closing, I'd say my favorite sports car is a GT3 and my favorite "armchair GT" is a Maserati (at $120K)- certainly not the California (for much more if not double). My favorite GT is the 550: http://www.wyo550.com
