Out of curiosity, can I see a show of hands of those who have driven with a PDK equipped car?

A lot of the reasons why I want to wait for the next generation Turbo have been mentioned! I've been wanting a Turbo since 1996, but back then it was not realistic. Every iteration since I have so desired and lately I have made the point that if u have been waiting this long I can wait some more. But now I can finally scratch that itch and I may just pull the trigger on a .2 and upgrade when the 991/998 is finally here!

Drove the PDK at PSDS, very impressive gearbox.

My take, as a new 997.2 6 owner is that the upgrade at this point of the game is not worth the price tag. That being said... I have driven both .1 and .2 and the improvement in stock form is pretty obvious (to me). The power to the pavement in the .2 is amazing - it feels like the .2 speedo is about 20% fast. 100mph feels like 80, still trying to figure out if this is a good thing... The stealthy fastness of the .2 is intoxicating.

I opted 997.2 over 997.1 and mods, but being that there was not a .1 in my garage to begin with was no doubt a deciding factor.

Bonehead - I totally agree with all your reasons for not upgrading.

My next Turbo will not be until there is a new 99?.

Drove at PSDS also. While it was very good and obviously fast, I didn't love it. kind of boring. you could barely feel it shift. Now I know this is better/newer technology, but I kind of missed that "slam" you feel when pulling the paddles like you get in say, an F430. I don't think the PSDS cars are sport-equipped so maybe that had something to do with it.

But, if I were buying a .2 now I would really have to think about PDK.

Fantastic performance and very efficient shifting on the .2 but the main reason I bought my P car was for the 6 speed. For me the PDK took away from the total driving experience as did the older tip. To each their own. Not many cars at this performance level left the even offer 6 speed...hang in there Porsche!

Wanting a manual shift 2 seater was the reason for buying the P car in the first place. The PDK is certainly alluring but it's not what I really wanted.

Plus, having spent money on mod'ing my .1, it would seem senseless to start all over again especially when the new motor is still unproven.

I may keep this car until it's considered a classic...I hope I live that long.

ahhh, another rationalization thread as to why i'm happy with my current model and don't want the latest one, and want to convince others. happens every iteration and we'll see it again from the 997.2 owners when the 998 or whatever it's called comes out.

Well, let's face it, most of the "shortcomings" of the .1 that were "fixed" in the .2, such as motor mounts, PTV, different sways and dampers, have already been done to a great many .1 cars. So where is the advantage of the .2? The only thing I see left is PDK and if you prefer a 6 speed than even PDK isn't a benefit.

This isn't a question of stock vs. stock! This is more about should I trade my 'tailored' .1 for a stock .2. I wouldn't for sure.

Yep, sure have. A fantastic technological achievement and heaps better than any tip or auto but does it replace the stick and third pedal? It may well do for plenty but not for me! You see for me, there is so much more to driving a P car than just going fast or, being the fastest at the next traffic light derby or, producing a better lap time on a track day. Its all about the drive, feeling the revs, feeling the shift, being intimately part of that function, its feeling the car and all the sensations that go with it which in some crazy way all goes toward bringing man closer to the machine. To me this is what this P turbo car represents and is fundamentally all about so i cant see any sense (for me that is) to water that experience down. I guess thats why we may never see a PDK box in a Gt3 or GT2 as these cars represent the ultimate in the P brand's man and machine driving experience. And, my next turbo will also be a stick for that same reason. Hopefully P doesnt rob that choice from its loyal customers as what has happened over at Ferrari..

Karim, you represent the perfect .2 buyer as you don't own a 911 turbo at all so you will be so happy with this car you will be totally over the moon when you get it .
I cant wait to hear your reviews when you take delivery . They will be very colourful and descriptive no doubt .

You miss the point totally here and have failed to comprehend the replys to the OP. I havent heard anyone trying to convince anyone not to buy a .2 and, no one here is saying the .1 is a better car than .2 in a stock to stock comparison. It's basically all about the money to trade up for a car that looks little different to the one we all have. Im sure it will be a different story when 991/998 tt arrives. And for that matter what's your qualification? Do you even own a 911 turbo?
