TT PDK on a track
Both of the 996 GT3s handled much better than my new 997 TT PDK. That said, the acceleration of the 997 TT PDK feels like it is more than enough to make up for the handling deficit (relative to the street version GT3) on any track. I don't think the 997 GT3s have enough incremental power to make up that gap.
So, bottom line, I think it depends on what you are after. On the track, the GT3 will handle much better and may "feel" somewhat more satisfying (though it may also be more prone to bite you in the butt), while the TT PDK will more than make up for its girth and softer suspension on the straights.

2011 GT3 RS is rumored to have 488 or so horses - it is fairly close to stock TT power but price wise it gets ugly (for me personally - considering it is a track only 'hobby' car) plus it is not clear if GT3 or RS car will ever have PDK (most likely not?). It is also not clear what is the actual life expectation for PDK if it gets extensively tracked.

One of the Porsche magazines had an article on C2s PDK that was modified to be close to a GT3 and used exclusively on the track. I don't remember the specifics, but it was in the last month and the article was very positive.
Does anyone have experience about how the PDK turbo handles heat after a few laps? From some of the data that EVOMS shared, it looks like the oil temps were significantly higher on the DFI engine compared to the Mezger. Anyone have ideas how this affects performance after a several consecutive laps?
Take my opinion for what its worth, but also note to please check out the next Autoweek Magazine because i literally just finished doing a test and write-up about the new GT3 versus the new Turbo with a PDK.
My quick thoughts are below:
First the car shifts plenty quick, the downshifts are slightly delayed, and i did find an issue with this a time or two when attacking for the ultimate lap time. This PDK paddles were very nice though, and the car is damn fast! Tons of fun to drive.
As you will see in the magazine, the PDK Turbo was easily a second quicker than the latest GT3, and honestly I would much rather have the turbo over the GT3. I was disappointed that the new GT3 wasnt much of a step forward from the old one. Handling was good, brakes were good, but power was frustrating as it always has been. The turbo was the opposite. Handling, brakes etc were all good, and the power was incredible.
I loved the PDK, but im also a big fan of normal manuals. The shifting will not be an issue for anyone, unless you are pushing to the max on a track. You may find that you pull a paddle, and it will do the downshift mid-corner. Thats annoying!
Hope my opinion counts. Thanks

I have a 997.2S/pdk and have loved it for the past year I have owned the car. A few weeks ago I finally got a chance to track it, and WOW was I amazed at how fast and easy it was to track. I had no issues with overheating and the computer showed that I was averaging 17mpg after a good 45minutes of tracking.
I love manual trans and sometimes wish I run through the gears myself, but those thoughts are fleeting and rare because PDK is that great to me. Maybe there are some people who disagree, but the consensus I hear is that people who have PDK just love it.
By the way thanks to the person who explained the reason for the delay in downshifts(which I dont really notice myself), thats why I love this forum some of you know a whole lot of crap that I love to learn.

It will always be delay in a auto/double clutch gearbox because of the rev match. One example is there isn't able to have high engine brake during hard braking because you can't jump gears. Or try to suddenly downshift 2 or 3 gears while braking hard from a long straight to a slow turn and you will understand what i'm saying.
Another example is while driving at 5th at 3000rpm smash the throttle. Then at 5000rpm lower a gear, keeping it always at wot, to give you a extra boost (like a clutch boost). It works better in NA cars due to the lack of the monstrous torque of the TT. In this case it will be considerable delay because the PDK will predict a upshift to 6th but as you downshift to 4th, it needs to disengage the preselected 6th and engage 4th.
As some said before, PDK works perfectly only when it predicts what you will do next, that is 95% the time. For those that cares with the remaining 5%, the only solution is manual. As on track is almost impossible to predict all the gear changes, thats one of the reasons why track focused P-cars don't have PDK.

An article in panorama, documenting an interview wtih W. Rorhl stated that the nurburgring times between a PDK 911 Turbo and a Manual turbo were w/in 1 second... So in the hands of a pro driver the lap times are the same. The ease of driving a pdk will make it up in the hands of a non pro i would assume. We prepped a pdk turbo with our stage 3 + suspension flash and coolers and it is a track car.... the owner loves it and is learning to turn fast laps.
I raced cars in my younger years and a PDK would not hold me up at all. I would be able to put down faster times than a 6 speed and I know how to shift and keep boost up in turbo based cars.
Hi,
If there is anybody here who owns and races GT3/GT3 RS and also tried new TT with PDK on a track - could you voice your opinion of new TT car`s handling pls? I just was quite suprised to read in that issue of
Panorama of new TT considered by Walter Roehl as equal substitute of GT3 RS so it woul be interesting to hear from somebody who has first han experience with both cars.
Sorry, if this was already discussed point me to the thread as I did not find it.
thanks, Paul.
