What's this about the 998!?!?

I get this news yesterday from a buddy that Porsche is bringing out the 998. Would like opinions from current 997 owners about this happening so soon? 06-10 4yrs?... Whats bugging me is that the 997 is going to depreciate once the 998 is introduced....

The 997 is going to depreciate. The 998 is going to depreciate. If you want a Turbo that is holding value, get a 993. That being said the 997 is getting closer to being outside that window of rapid depreciation. Nice examples of the 996 are holding in the 50s, and that's a car that is much less popular when compared to the 997. My guess is that a 10 year old 997 may still be worth close to 60k if cared for, which with all things considered is pretty minimal depreciation.

If you are looking for some type of return on your money, you might want to try a CD or Money Market. Automobiles are the worst investment. They all depreciate except for a selected few.

That's always the case for car business, once the new one is out the old one will always depreciate in value. Car is never become a good investment except for the antique and limited number production cars.

the 996 ran from 1999 - 2004
the 996tt ran from 2001-2005

we can infer that

the 997 will run from 2005-2011
and the 997tt will run from 2007-2012.

that means we should see the 998 Carrera 2 as a 2012 MY, and the 998TT as a 2014 model.

no, 997 carrera and carrera S began with model year 2005. they did however continue to make 996 carrera models for model year 2005 as well (turbo S, and 4S).

Actually the 997 was available last quarter of 2004 so expect to see 998's creep into the traffic in the last quarter of 2011 (next year). Many 997 buyers (such as myself) took delivery late 04 and early 05. Mine was del in Jan 05 altho was delivered dec so info on the new 998 car will continue to steadily creep out and by june next year official info should be released. I could have taken delivery of a 997 Aug 04 and drove one then so the same will apply for 998 at that time next year. USA usually gets their cars well before Aus too.
