Mike at AWE recommended a plug change on my 12,000 mile 08TT with GIAC software, exhaust, Bilsteins, Sways and alignment done. He feels that with the higher boost it is a safety net to have new plugs put in. I have been getting crazy prices from two local dealers from $900 to $1,300 dollars. With many hours of labor being the big difference.
Any one out there with thoughts?

spark plug change on mine was around 3 hrs. But its a 996.

 

$600 to $1200 is a good range for a dealership.

 

Some people remove the engine to change spark plugs and that increases the cost.

My Porsche dealer changed mine in about two hours without removing the engine. Its a little tricky tho

Dropping the engine is extremely simple in a 997tt, super easy for the dealer, or anybody with the proper equipment. Spark plugs take less than two hrs including dropping the engine. Having tried it on mine there is no way to do it without dropping the engine in less than two hrs, just too many components to remove and reinstall correctly. Runs 750-1200 around here at dealers.

That's a fairly large range of prices, I guess it pays to shop around.

 

I think the price range has to do with individual state economy locations.

 

I had the spark plugs changed on my '08 GT2 this past week at a San Diego, CA dealer (12,000-mile service -- GT2 requires new plugs). I paid $693 (6.6 hours) labor and $145 for new plugs, for a total of $838.

 

Mine has a stock ecu, full fabspeed exhaust and fabspeed air box. It's got 12,000 miles on the clock. When should I start thinking about changing my plugs?

 

Turbo maintenance schedule asks for plug change every 4 years/24,000 miles. GT2 is twice as often.

 

I was told that the shop had to remove the rear bumper and some mechanicals (turbos?) to get access to the spark plugs and that they didn't pull the engine.

 

There's a lot more involved than just pulling the bumper...the oil and cooling lines to the turbos get in the way as well.

Actually engine drop is a total overkill. Remove wheels, remove lights, remove bumper, remove intercollers, remove exhaust shields and you have excess to all plugs. 2 hours max. That would run you 100$ labour plus cost of plugs. ;-).
