So, you are paying almost $30 to $40k more for 997.2 pdk vs 997.1 manual. I think you can do better by waiting until this winter when more 2011 hits the road.

Looks like someone needs to reread the hare and tortoise story...just to spoil it, the tortoise wins the race!

The excitement at the thought of the pdk and it's performance is lost to me when the reality of speed limits and the high limits of the car are considered. I don't mind the manual labour of changing gears, at least I'm getting some exercise on the way to work and it prevents the boredom of any type of automatic (auto/tip/pdk) for me. Sure, if the absolute lowest times matter to you then why wouldn't you go to a pdk. Perhaps if I spent more time at the track I would want a pdk but I'll stick with my stick thank you.

Interesting discussion.

Personal preference always takes precedence. I don't think ANYONE can dispute the performance increase with the dual-clutch gearboxes.

For the person who offered the BMW M3 (with and without the DCT), this is NOT the PDK. I've driven the M3 as well as the PDK. The M3 (in comparison) is crap.

LOL...that person was me

Please show me where I stated that DCT is equivalent to PDK.

I posted the test to show an example where two vehicles equipped identically with the exception of the transmission have nearly identical lap and acceleration times.

well

bob,

if your going to show two vehicles equipped identically with the exception of the transmission have nearly identical lap and acceleration times in a PDK thread, then we can we assume that you are trying to say something about the PDK transmission?

Otherwise i really don't understand what the point of that statement was for.

Please re-read my post. It was made specifically in response to nberry's statement. Nberry was making a generalized statement about improved technology leading to better performance.

Manual transmission is like the manual typewriter. Challenging to use and challenging to extract a good product. Some like the challenge. I prefer to move into the 21st century.
My example shows that despite a "21st century" advantage, the double clutch vehicle did not outperform the "manual typewriter" transmission. I was not suggesting equivalence of DCT to PDK. I quoted the previous member's statement so that the example would not be taken out of context. Unfortunately, it appears it has.

4. Put it in drive and no issues with the valet

Cons:
1. Not the excitement of a manual for sure. Felt like an automatic at times.
2. In 'Drive' mode, it hangs around in 5th gear and has little throttle when you punch it

Hard decision. The idea of being as fast as possible at any moment is seductive. It takes off like a rocket. I'm a weekend driver and will likely never perfect a manual. I just like having fun with it. The manual is fun at times but lacks the precision and speed of the PDK.

Tough call. Still undecided. The idea of never over-revving or replacing a clutch is a nice bonus as well. Moreover, eery review I have read said of all Porsche models, the PDK mates best with the turbo and minimizes the turbo lag...
1) The minimization of Turbo lag is a huge plus .
2) The way it can ignore an error command makes a money shift impossible and gurantees engine preservation.

Those two features alone =PDK.

In either case, in my hands, that becomes Proper Driver Kit
