Smoke after oil change-help

well today i drained the main plug, changed the canister oil filter, and put about 8 quarts of 0-40 mobil 1 oil in the car. On a start up, the car started pouring out white smoke out of the right side of my exhaust.... DOH' figured i put to much oil in... Drained everything again and added 6 quarts this time, started it and waited for the engine oil level gauge to pop up.. It was cold and said the engine needed to be warm before reading the oil level. which never read because i ended up shutting the car down due to TOO much smoke... the owners manual didint help much, does this car have 2 drain plugs?

YES! The car has 2 drains! You must have overfilled the car! I know both plugs poored out a lot of oil on mine! Hope you didn't do any damage...

Ahh you beat me to it..I drained all the oil and added 7.5 quarts and it was just perfect on the digital dipstick.. Alot of white smoke was POURING out of the exhaust pipes, (alot of smoke) and also oil drips on the exhaut and through...
The first time i changed the oil, i drained only the main oil pan, then added 8 quarts. drowned the car in oil because i didnt drain the second plug, ever since that start up, its been smoking alot. with the final oil change , toping off the fluids correctly, with no check engine light on, it spudders and almost died out.. Can my cats be clogged by the drowning of oil?

Not sure what to say...You may have gotten oil on the spark plugs do to the over filling...I doubt the cats got oil in them....I just hope you didn't bend anything with to much oil in it....

I have new spark plugs and bigger intercoolers going in it next week. I just bought the car 3 week ago, put about 2k mile on it and figured she was due for an oil change. I bought it used with about 18k and on the clock. First car ive seen with 2 oil plugs ..it was spuddering and having trouble at idle while pouring out smoke.

Did you drain the plug on the crankcase or the oil tank. If you only drained the crankcase, there should be some major overfill.

I first drained only the crank case plug, filled her up with 8.5 quarts, and started her... SMOKEEED... drained it, tried 6 quarts... waited 10 mins while the car SMOKED out the neighborhood so my ELECTRIC dipstick could read the level. then FINALY drained both again the Drain plug on the crank case, and the plug on the oil tank... filled her up with 7.5 quarts, left the oil filter in, and it read perfect level on the dipstick, with no checkengine light.. the problem now, its still smoking, and spudders like its about to stalll. I just had plan for bigger intercoolers and a tune, while changing the spark plug because it a 20k mile car. im thinking my turbos might be gone because all the oil spit out of the tail pipes from thiss massive oil drowning.

man that was alot of over fill after 2 times of filling. I think the crankcase only hold around 2 quarts of oil. Hope everything is alright. You should of measured the oil that was drained before putting stuff in there.

yup, hope the motor's not hydraulic'd. You could try pulling the plugs, cranking for a bit, then replacing with new plugs. I would call a pro at this point (Kevin @ UMW, Betim, someone who knows these motors well)

I just dealt with this. Check the following because oil can make its way to a lot of places you would never imagine.

Check for

oil in the turbos (will have to replace turbos - in 2 - 6th...boost it and see if the rpms shoot up without the car going anywhere)
oil in the inlet piping (inspect for oil - clean if necessary)
oil in the intercoolers (clean the IC's - according to UMW soak the IC's in Dawn dish detergent to rid of the oil)
oil on the plugs (replace plugs - car will sputter if boost comes on)
oil on the sensors (clean sensors - car will sputter, and run like it's on 5 cylinders)
oil on the clutch (replace clutch - in 5th or 6th...boost it and see if the rpms shoot up without the car going anywhere)

Damn - sorry to hear about this. I was planning to do my oil change but now I am scared to death. I guess I really need to study DIY.

since my exhaust tips had oil dripping through them, if figured it clogged my cats, so decided to take my headers, cats, exhaust off, and clean the turbo inlets, and run it catless for a while to smoke eventually burn the oil. As i had it running with NO smoke for multiple hours at idle, i washed and soaked the exhaust system, headers, cats, exhaust and tips in dawn detergent . Before I put my exhaust system on, i revved the catless car up untill smoke started POURING out again., and eventually sputtered and died on me. when i checked for codes, all four 02 sensors popped up because they were out, then an Intake Solenoid code popped up, followed by misfired injector #6... I cleaned the car up and flat-bedded it to my local dealer and kind of played dumb and tipped my service advisor I told him the car simply doesnt start... I have the right amount of oil in the motor now, and there is no drippings of any sign of oil in the pipes. The only mods i have on the car right now are FABspeed headers, cats, and exhaust, without software. I ordered EVOMS intercoolers and evoms stage 2 software that is going on my car in about a week, i was planning on changing the spark plugs to some denso cold plugs anyway.. What do you think the dealer is going to say about this?? I was told my by service advisor that since the exhaust was installed by a porsche dealer, i still have full warranty.. ANY IDEAS?!
