Thoughts please...

Hey Guys,

What do you think these "S"'s are going to be worth a year from now? I can't seem to get a real handle on them due to a few very valid and unprecedented factors:

!) First DD car out of the factory ever that really gets your attention.

2) Somewhat limited production although Porsche is bringing over more than we were led to believe they would.

3) 991 on the horizon regardless of no turbo for a couple of years. (We think at least, there's a new Porsche in town with a new mindset and NOBODY knows what's going on...)

4) Very expensive considering THAT not much has changed from the .1's

5) Economy, we're still hurting in many places in the country. Not many have, or are willing to release, this much cash for a toy.

6) To PDK or not to PDK. Is it going to be a fad??? If they bring out a 6sp, 500HP, DD intended, NA car in the near future, will the PDK's be abandoned rendering their resale fair at best? There's a lot who don't like them and they may not be mod worthy/reliable, too soon to tell.

7) 911 sales generally suck right now. The Pan/Cayenne turbos are excelling beyond anyone's predictions.

I know the general consensus is go buy what you want, enjoy it, you only live once. I intend to do that but I don't want to loose my *** in the process. There are some pretty good deals on an abundance of, nearly "S" appointed '10's out there, with few miles, that might serve the purpose as well and may not be much of a sacrifice. The problem is I only drove the "S" (no 10's around here) so I don't know how much you're sacrificing on a 2010. Or, do you go with a .1, mod it (proven), and live happily ever after for WAY less monies??

Fire away! Shoot me and put my out of my misery

I'll take a shot, since I just went through this, but the true answer is no one knows. I'll bet they will be worth 25% less than sticker in 1 year depending upon miles/condition.

The similar models such as 911rs, 964 turboS, and 993 turbo S all hold their value very well. They probably dropped of a bit after the new model was released but then the value increased.

On the other hand I looked at a 2005 turbo S (996) in 2008 that had about 25,000 miles on it and was being sold CPO'd at a dealer for 67,000. The original sticker was 170,000. That kind of depreciation made me really take pause considering the new car.

In the end, you only live once, and if you think you will keep the car for a while then the depreciation may not seem too bad. The 997's seem to hold their value a little better than the 996's. I think the pdk will help the value as there will probably be people who have only owned older 6 speed or tip cars that may want to move into a newer car and try it.

Also, there always seems to be some issues when the new generation cars come out, such as the rear main seal and the car not starting after washing in the early 997s. Of course we may have these issues too with the 997.2 engines. The 991 will probably have similar issues. If performance is a concern, from my memory, the newly released turbo usually comes in near the outgoing S.

I don't think the turbo S's are that much better than a similarly equipped non-s. If you are worried about depreciation that much you could always buy a used 2010 or 2011 such as this car: (no affiliation)

Lastly, with the economy is going you should be able to get several percent off of sticker on most cars in stock. If you change your mind on the red, I know where there is a silver car at a good deal near me. Please PM me for details.

I had a good friend who recently passed away at a young age from pancreatic cancer. He always wanted a Porsche but did not end up getting his turbo until after he was diagnosed. His situation has made me live more for the moment than I would have in the past.... Also, I am lucky that my wife really wanted to get a newer turbo.

Good luck

That was near what I was thinking too.

Wow! That was one expensive "S" for 2005 How did it get up that high???

Yep, happened to me.

Probably 2 years from now under the new regime.

Have you driven a 2010?

Thanks! Nice looking car.

I really want a Cab, that knocks the red one out.

That's terrible and unfortunately not the first time I've heard of this happening. You definitely have to keep your mortality in mind. My wife wants me to do whatever I want to do. I'm very blessed

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I really appreciate it. If you see any Cabs please let me know.

Good luck

Thanks!

Anybody else want to take a shot at the above?

I have already ordered my Turbo S long long time ago.
I really don't worry about deprecation if you don't sell it doesn't dep.

I will not wait on 991. If they spank the Turbo S I might take hit and buy a new one but I doubt it. I will have waited a year so I plan on keeping this one. I didn't leave one item off my wish list.

The Pan/Cayenne are very nice just bought my wife a Cayenne S she couldn't be happier.

Hoping I enjoy the Pdk after a year. If not then I made a mistake but it won't be my first or last.

I too had a case with a non serious case of cancer My father had a major heart attack He did recover fully but I decided right there that only a fool dies rich and never fulfills his dreams. I am not rich but very blessed and I had saved for years for a Porsche the Targa didn't quite cut it so the Turbo S was ordered. Now the dream will be here soon.

Make the order if something else comes out better they will take a trade. Waiting is for children we wait to turn 16?18,21. Go for it

Good Luck
