At 9500 miles mine has never smoked but I use VP 109 only. To rule out the gas, use 100 pump or get a few 5 gal's of 109 and see what happens.......

Thanks guys!
I don't think it has anything to do with gas as I am running 1:2 of ms109 and pump 94 at the moment. I ran straight ms109 for a bit too.
I was using mobil 1 0w-40 before and just switched to turbo diesel 5w-40 today and see if it improves. oil consumption about 1 quart every 2000 miles.
I found that if i idle the car a couple minutes before shutting it off, it doesn't smoke at next start up.
what worries me is that mine blows smoke mostly on the driver side pipe when it happens and I have a little more soot on the left side tip too.

This is normal because of the construction of the engine, let it a little bit before you stop the engine after a drive.

The "soot" difference I'm sure depends by the muffler.

Smoke only on one side can easily be a couple valve guides leaking a bit more than others, but you don't have to worry IMO.

If you want to be sure, take off your headers (really easy job) and check inside the exh. ports.

.
This should be done every time you shut the engine off. I let mine idle at least 2 minutes before shutdown.

Guys thanks for the feedback.
Since last night I have switched to 5w-40 Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel oil. I have drove the car around 50 miles today. Stopped and started many times, some are shorter drives and some are longer drive. It didn't smoke once. The car even sat on the inclined drive way for a couple of hours and no smoke.
I almost think it may has something to do with the oil. The longer you keep the oil in the sump the more it will smoke.

I don't think it has anything to do with the type, brand, or viscosity of the oil.

This is a dry sump system so it may have more to do with letting the engine fully scavenge the oil from the bottom end. But then again, I'm just speculating.

And keeping the engine at idle for 2 or more minutes before shutdown is the key.

totally normal for flat engine designs to burn oil at startup. Unlike V engines the oil does not drain down with gravity.

No need to idle the car, these are not the old oil cooled only turbos of yesterday that would coke up in the lines if not circulated. Granted I would not do a 0-140-0 run and shut her off but just tooling around with the occasional stop light grand prix definately does not require a 2-3 minute idle before shutdown.

Nor is it really hurting anything so no big deal either way.
