Start up smoke only on driver side pipe??
Hey Guys,
I have noticed that whenever my car get a puff of smoke at start up; the smoke always come out of the driver side pipe. I do idle the car around 3 minutes before I shut if off and leave the engine lid open while in the garage and the car smokes very very rarely.
I have watched a few youtube videos on exhausts. All those cars that smoked at start up only had smoke coming out of driver side pipe or more on driver side and a little on passenger side. why?
I have also noticed that my drive side exhaust tip has a tiny little bit more soot than the passenger side. Can you guys check on yours and report back?
Thanks alot!

Mine does this too. But I know why, two valve guides on the drivers side are leaking a bit more than the others, so a bit more oil go down into the header while the car is still.
P-tech said it's no problem as "all of them" leak a bit through the valve guides.

No I'm using 5w-50. But I see no smoke if: -I let the engine go on full operating temp -I let it idle a couple of minutes before shutting it off .
Many many times the smoke can just be water....yes...coming from bad gas... If the gas station is not a "busy" one, you can fill the car with gas that has a high percentage of water in it, and when the exhaust is cold on sturtup the water condenses and then evaporates when it gets warm enough, causing "smoke".
If you see little drops coming from the tips, that's water, not oil. But you can tell easily from the smell if it's oil though.

+1, especially letting it idle a minute or so before shutdown.
