Porsche Driving School

Has anyone ever been to the school in Alabama? If so, is it worth going or are there other schools that you'd recommend?

Gasman - did you do the whole weekend? Is there an option for turbos as well (at a later time of course)?

Great course. I've done the basic as well as masters and will do it again. Awesome track/facilities, world class instructors and just a great 2 days.

some will argue the cost of this course will get you a lot of PCA DE's - it may, but i don't think a DE can match the overall experience.

Roppy5- I did the 2 day basic, 2 day Masters, and the Masters plus for the SCCA racing license. It is a fantastic, albeit expensive, course. I have done DEs for years, while they are good for what they are, nothing beats instruction from professional race drivers. They have a turbo course but I don't think it is anything special. You'll be amazed at the performance envelope of a bone stock Porsche.

Wow... great feedback guys; much appreciated. It looks like I'm going to try to schedule a weekend performance class. Did you all stay at the listed resort hotel? Anything else I should know about the place? (i.e. any specific instructors to ask for, etc.?)

I would say the 3 day Advanced Formula school at Jim Russell is as good - more actual racing, seat-time, etc. Although if you have the dough, The Porsche School, including Masters is great,

The first time I went I stayed at the listed hotel (Ross Bridge Resort). It is a very nice hotel but a good 45 minute ride in the van there and back each day.

the second time I went I stayed at a hotel near the track - worked better for me. They do have a group dinner one night at the hotel which is fun. I had a rental car so just drove there and went back to my hotel afterwards.

You'll work with and rotate thru all the instructors - there are different exercises. They are all good, however like anything else, you may connect better with some instructors than others. When you go back to the Masters (and you will), you have more track time and more oppty. to work with the instructors and seek out certain ones if you want to.

If you can swing it, one option would be to do the basic and masters back to back. There are a few times thru the year where the schedule lines up that way.

doug, how different is the + course over masters? I heard it's actually a pass/fail course? i'm not interested in getting my SCCA so I could just repeat masters again.

When do you plan on going? I may want to make the trip out there around May or so.

Did it while it was at Road Atlanta with Doc Bundy and David Murray. One the most memorable Porsche experiences of my life. I'm sure it's the same experience in AL.....
