which ECU for my 997.1 tt?
Hey Cannga and speed21,
I had the AWE Tuning Cat Back exhaust system version 2 on my 06 Cayman S. Inside the car it's louder than my Europipe EP1. When I WOT it is noticeably louder too. Especially at 3k RPM and over. Both P cars only have an aftermarket exhaust system fitted. I find EP1 loud when I cold start the car during the 1st minute. After that it is not loud to me. I find the sound " exotic " when I am in 1st gear while I park/move my tt around. C63's cabin noise is quite obvious quieter than my TT at any speed. When I floor it. I can hear the V8's gorgeous notes. No drone or whatever. It is also quiet when I am cruising at higher speed " 120km/h " at 6/7th gear. I also have a few friends who drives stock C63 and at the light. We both floor it up to 4.5k rpm both cars with windows down. We both find the C63's sound is more " aggressive ". EP1 louder? I can't really say since it produces lower frequency. But AMG definitely sounds more " mean " to my ears. During idle I can definitely hear the EP1 exhaust flow. AMG's idle is very very quiet.

Hey Cannga and speed21,
That sounds plausible.
It sure would be if you are gauging the noise inside the car.
Im assuming youre inside the car driving it.....right?
Thats what i would have thought. The benz being an atmo (and a benz)would not have the same issues as a 997 turbo which tends to resonate as the inside noise applifies with the exterior exhaust sound. Thats where EP is brilliant! It controls the inside sound to sane levels whilst allowing the free flow yet still delivering an awsome exterior sound....for a 997tt that is.
Again, what i would have thought being a benz, atmo and, stock exhaust.
Thats the v8 atmo talking. I thought much the same thing when i heard the C63 i was running and tailing. It did sound nice as I expected a high tech big german 8 at high revs should. Although it did start sounding like a gas bottle valve being opened from behind at full revs.....typical of a stock system designed within sound guidelines. I think thats the asthma component of the system kicking in. Agree the benz has a purer and more seductive note to the ear.. Its like a gt3 atmo engine at 8300rpm. No P turbo will ever sound as good as one of those either.
Two different engines are bound to give off two different sounds and notes....one being big capacity atmo 8, vs the other a high tech turbo flat six. They both sound mean in their own right. Atmo will usually have the cleaner sound too.....with no exhaust running past a couple of hair dryers
.
Thats the aftermarket unrestricted sytem vs the stock compliant system....fairly typical to expect.....but again two completely different engines plus Benz has engine up front too.

my neighbour has a C63 and my old man has the new E63 and the exhaust note is downright evil. You will never match it with a flat 6 bass wise but with an exhaust from the top suppliers you will get a much more exotic sound with the 997TT and less Nascar as with the 63 motors.
I think you need to give the car to a friend and drive it by you from 4000 to 6000 rpm the car must be screaming. I have the same exhaust system and thought the same till I heard it passing in front of me
Give it a try, It should be louder than the AMG when turbo is boosting, now V8 sound is totally different.
I have chosen Protomotive for all other modds and couldn't be happier. Todd is one of the most reputable tuners in the world, with the best after sale service in the world

I agree with you 100% on that cannga. One should never settle on anything they arent 100% completely satisfied with. I also take a no compromise approach on this as we are talking about an expensive P car here and not some cheap buz box.
The only very unusual thing about this is that i have never ever heard of any EP1 buyer ever sell or change an EP for something else. On the other hand I've heard of many that have changed out numerous other systems only to settle on an EP1 or 2 ..but never ever the other way around
. Hmmmm....ok, I guess there is always a first though
. Maybe list this one in the guiness book of records

.For example, when I first heard the Tubi, at the time considered to be the premier exhaust for the Turbo and my number one choice, I was shocked because what I heard was not consistent with its "status" at all. The Tubi has no low frequency to speak of and was so quiet I kept asking myself what's missing.
That said, other people just absolutely love it, so my conclusion is this: There is never a perfect exhaust for everyone. This applies to Tubi, to AWE, to Cargraphic, to GMG. Just because I don't like the Tubi sound doesn't mean it's a bad exhaust (well, on second thought
). The fact that someone might think EP is a little on the quiet side for his taste doesn't surprise me at all, that's just the nature of modding. Cheers.

thanks guys for the replies,
When I first got my Europipe EP1 installed. The auto shop guy revved it up and move my car around and I was like damn. It sounded pretty sweet and unique. Again, I don' think EP1 is LOUD. I guess I am always under 3k RPM during city cruising? when I pass 3k RPM the car will fly. LOL, I shouldn't compare a N/A V8 6200cc in the front with a flat 6 turbo 3600cc at the rear. Regarding the AWE I had on the Cayman S. I had quite more drone and resonance compare with the EP1. Again, AWE was louder outside or inside.
I had a friend of mine who drove my tt during night time with no traffic. I was thrilled with the sound it produces. I heard the turbo spools up and the unique exhaust note. It was F ing nice! The sound volume was perfect. I guess the problem is, I am in Taipei. It's got too much going on. Too much scooters, cars, buses, modded cars, etc. It wouldn't allow me to listen fully on my car. Or maybe my hears prefers N/A engine sound more than a turbo. Don't get me wrong! I love the TT. It's the best car I have in my life.
Still debating if I should upgrade the ECU. The car is already too fast for what I can handle at the moment.

Well, thinking to get bucket seats, Yes perhaps suspension. How is Bilstein Damptronic for the TT? I had the Damptronic for my Cayman S. It triggered the PASM light and it failed working. I wasn't happy with it.
I am extremely happy with TPC's stage 3 suspension which is based on bilstein's. It will transform the car.
Wasn't this thread about ECUs?
Here's some data for you:

Peak boost is about 1.2 bar, rev limiter increased to 7050RPM. We can address any kind of hardware setup you might have on the car, from 100% OEM stock to a large exhaust with methanol.

[quote=cannga;3042080]speed, when it comes to exhaust, I share many of your opinions/thoughts (probably more than anyone else on these forums). Just read my posts on resonance and Tubi and you'll see what I mean LOL.

Actually. Better make that one a huge LOL!! I also never managed to get the whole tubi thing and have absolutely no idea what all the fuss was about....but, agree each to his own and, with modding everyone has his own concept of what works. Choice is grand and it would be a boring little world if we all had precisely the same likes.
Hey cannga best not to audition this....you may be changing your exhaust out afterward
. I can also assure you, you can definately hear it from inside the car. And Europeancar i seriously suggest you move to EP2. You will be able to find a buyer very easy for that EP1....dont fret.
But for me, driving to office this morning i can honestly say my exhaust from inside the car is certainly audible. In fact any more so and id be possibly having a problem. Yes i love my music sometimes. I hardly ever have my windows down either because of the outside air quality but when ive got clean air i put the windows down and give it some stick. It sounds great
.
Hey European car it must a damn noisy place over your part of the world if you cant hear your EP1 from the inside. Im sure EP2 will compete with all that racket going on over your way so....Do it!!! Dont settle for less than 100% satisfaction
. Go for it!!

I agree that comparison with NA cars, and especially in Cayman with the engine practically sharing the cabin with driver, is "tough."
Re. your other point, have another driver driver the car and enjoy the sound: That's of course true, outside cabin >> in-cabin sound, but what good is an exhaust if it only sounds good when you are not driving the car

I wouldn't advise europeankar to settle for anything. Isn't there a louder version of the EP1 exhaust? I think if OP wants to ask for a trade, EP just might agree.
