2nd gear pull - problem?

Hi all,

So I had my TT for about a year now but still haven't had much time to drive it much. Although I am getting a little better with shifting, I am still struggling with power delivery or perhaps lack there of when shifting from 1st to 2nd at WOT.

Basically it feels like there is a dead spot right after the shift - like the boost is gone or RPM doesn't rise fast enough. Is this because of reduction in boost during shift or is it traction control? OR am I not releasing clutch at the right rpm to keep the boost up.

Thanks

boost is indeed reduced and in need of rebuilding after the gear change.

May be a chip might help??? I thought may be I am letting out the clutch too soon and letting RPM drop too much or something....

Are you maybe losing traction? Any flashing lights in the dash? I'd have to say the first 2 gears are like dynamite. 3rd and 4th are also impressive but it's the first 2 gears that really pin you to the seat.

The Bogg - that's a great point. I'll try to check for the traction control light. At least with my crapping shifting, I feel like there is a delay before the boost builds up and RPM climbs. The car seems to be holding boost so I don't think there is a leak or anything.

does it even with my tune. granted, it could be the car holding back due to traction but if it is its cutting in before any light comes on and the cutting in is very very smooth, hard to notice.

Make no mistake, it pulls like a freight train, but there is a slight lapse before the turbos spool up I can feel. You can also see it on the factory boost gauge.

Ive driven laggier big turbo cars back in the day and this is nothing lag wise compared to those of course, but I hear you in thats its noticeable.

gmoney - that's very reassuring. I thought it was just my **** poor shifting technique. I definitely see traction control light when I do aggressive downshift from 3rd to 2nd but I don't recall seeing it during upshift. I have not yet driven with traction control off.

Another stupid question. Let's say you want to do an aggressive rolling start say around 40mph. Is it better to downshift from 3rd to 2nd or keep in 2nd and punch it?

You need more than just a chip. You need to upgrade your vtg turbos. I went through this exact same thing. It's not your shifting because I guarantee mine is probably worse. Once you upgrade your turbos, you will say this is how the car should have come out of the factory. Immense power on demand, no annoying hesitation. Trust me, been there done that.

40 roll should start in 2nd gear.
