Thanks for the UV info. I had CF trim on my last car with no problem. Car is garaged and in Boston mostly overcast and a lot of direct hot sun is not an issue but I will look into UV protection.

The hood is manufactured by VIS. List is arund $2300 but they will discount. Octane is a reseller that will discount further.

VIS - manufacturer

Just to let you know....all my parts are ViS parts....you also have Seibon available. They dont clearcoat their parts. I realize you are in Boston and heat isnt AS GREAT a factor as here in AZ but man.....you have a Porsche. After spending all that money on a work of art...I would think you would spend the 300 bucks to clear it. But thats just my $.02. And I have a wholesale account with ViS....but doesnt mean I want to buy a product more than once. I am kind of disappointed they cut corners by not clearing it when the CF is molded but it is what it is. Anyways, glad I could help out.

Clearcoat?

Listen up! This ain't a rattle-can job from Home Depot.

I am the voice of experience. Many clearcoat nightmares to my credit!

Many solvent-based polyurethane clear coats will yellow over time. MANY!
Acrylic clearcoat finished are much more UV resistant, but require more skill to apply and must be correctly formulated to be applied over the existing base coat. A proper job will not yellow and will resist a 200 hour CASS test for corrosion resistance.

A skilled painter is required to reduce the orange-peel that is common to all clearcoat finishes.

Pick a professional paint shop that really knows their stuff. Otherwise your BEEYOUTEEFULLL Carbon Hood will look like a bull elephant urinated on it and let it dry.

Better get some coppertone sunblock for your baby lol :P

Yeah. I've seen what sun damage does to true CF w/out clear coat.
In months to come it will dry and begin to not only change pigment
but start to scale like a dried fish in the sun as well.

Please do as suggested to maintain this sweet looking piece of art.

What did you end up using for wear protection?

Just good ol' american spit, and a lot of it!

Actually, I did quite a bit of research and found this:
http://www.myboatstore.com/aerospaceprotectant.asp

303 aerospace protectant. It applys a thin film that adhears to the surface and doesn't change the matte finnish. After applying it I then put on a teflon spray polish. It is slightly reflective but overall still appears very dry. A clear coat or film would make it glossy and I didn't want that.

The car is away for the winter. I have a garage bay that is covered with a few ft of snow so even I wanted to drive it I couldn't.

When it comes out of hibernation, I'll watch it closley for any signs of damage. I'll post some pics after some uv exposure.
