So how did this car check out?

I've been driving 996TTs since 2003 and feel it may be time to get into a 997TT for a change. Starting to look at local cars for sale.

So after gettting over the first 9977 Turbo Test drive experience I went back to the broker/seller with a series of requests, DME, PPI etc. Based on the reluctency to provide details w/o a commit to buy I walked away. Also, I went out and looked at another used 07, and was able to see that this car cosmetically is sub-par.

I was thinking about making a short drive to check out this car but your feedback saved me a trip. Would prefer a car with lower miles anyways.

Take your time and wait for the right car. Good luck with your search!

Thanks, patience is starting to turn to frustration, local inventory is low and when cars do pop up they're a dissapointment. Good luck in your search.

Yes, it was not just the car that did not feel quite right. The sales guy/owner did seem like he was hiding some details. I drove the car around the block and came right back. Gotta go with your gut because it is NEVER wrong.

Very true. The local pre-owned market right now stinks. I can see that I am going to have to spend significantly more than I thought. But there is no way I'm going to buy a 2nd rate car anywhere near this price point. I'm going to play this stupid pre-owned game for several more weeks, but if I have to end up ordering new and waiting 4 months, then so be it. It will be EXACTLY how I want it and I get to break it in right.

I was actually in a similar situation back in November.

We were going to get a C2S ordered new from a local dealer but due to our "special" color combo, the dealer changed the deposit requirement and so we put the purchase on hold. Then I went on the web and did a CPO search and found a 2010 TT with almost every option (incl. PCCB) with very low miles so I was ready to put in an offer but the problem is that it was in yellow.

At this point, my eyes were opened to the TT so there is no way of going back so after another few weeks of searching for a low mileage CPO 2010 TT to no avail, we have decided to order new and now I have an April delivery 2011 TT on order. When I think back, I think this is the best option (although a TT-S would have been better ) as I am already spending a rather large sum of money on a toy which I have wanted since I was a boy, it'd be a shame to have saved some money (read: being practical) and ruined the experience. (The practical thing to do is to stash the money in the bank but...)

Yep, I think the window has closed on getting a great pre-owned deal. The economy has turned the corner, the stock market is at multi-year highs, and those with jobs (997TT buyers) are doing just fine. Everybody that needed to unload their toys during the meltdown has done so already. By the time you find a truly pristine pre-owned 997TT, it will be close to or over $100K anyway. May as well just go new at that point.

Depreciation? Bah, I'm keeping this car for the rest of my life so why does it matter? Being practical/stashing money in the bank doesn't play at sub 1% interest. May as well spend it and have some fun, they print billions more with the click of a mouse anyway.

This is exactly my thoughts!!! I have wanted this car since very young and can finally afford it both financially and from the family's perspective as my son is an inch shy of 5 feet and my daugther is turning four so we can hopefully still use this as a "family" car for another 2-3 years. I also do not plan to sell it any time soon so depreciation was never my concern.

I can still remember back in the go-go days of the dot com years, I literally have to pay over MSRP here in the Silicon Valley just to get in line for an ordered car and I don't feel like doing it again once the stock market turned around some more. I can already feel that the dealers are sending a very different message from a few months ago.

I too have considered moving forward on placing an order, however 140k vs 80-90k is worth waiting for the "perfect used car" I know there will be something I won't like on a used car but with a kid on the way spending an additional 40-50 k does not make sense for me. Good luck to all the guys out there searching for the perfect used car. It's a challenge but
fun at the same time.
