How to Measure Decibel Levels???

Does anyone know how to measure decibel levels and how it's done at various tracks? Does anyone know if VIR, Mid-Ohio or Road America has a decibel level restriction and if so how is it measured ( ie. front straight, pit, WOT? ). Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Thx.

Mick

LRP measures them at the end of the front straight with a stationary meter, I believe 98dB is the max at limerock.

According to a current thread on Rennlist, Limerock plans to enforce (black flag; you're done) an 87-88 db level this year. Some stock cars might have difficulty achieving that. It's measured at 50' by a guy walking around with a portable device so it's hard to defeat with directional pipes, lifting off the gas, etc. Best to check with whatever track you plan to run at so you don't waste a trip.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how or where to get a db reading prior to going to the track? I won't be at Limerock so I'm not too concerned about them...I do plan on being at VIR, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Putnam Park and Autobahn this year. According to website at VIR, Mid-Ohio and Putnam Park there are no restrictions and I'm still researching the other two.
