911 Turbo S "918 Spyder" Edition
Everyone *****es and moans about the exorbitant price tags of these cars. Does anyone really think Porsche will have even the slightest difficulty in selling out the 918? Just as people believed they priced themselves too high with the GT2RS, they have done the same here. But didn't see the RS having any trouble in the sales department.
Profiteers will buy them up and then sell them for >$1mil. And you know what? They'll always find a buyer.

You are exactly correct but that price might have just kicked me out of the running. I was sincerely going to buy a 918 and now it will take some serious thought before considering it. I guess if I was ready to pay $650K then 845K$ isnt that big a difference - NOT. It does really kinda **** me off that they would pull this. I was well prepared, had the wife convinced, myself convinced, and now I will have to give it some serious thought. What a GD shame. I sincerely hope they are testing the waters for customer feedback and the price will drop a bit before being released or am I just fooling myself and this WILL be the price.

I'm sure this has pissed off many a customer. Will public outcry make Porsche drop the price? Highly doubt it. Simply b/c of the fact that each and every unit will have an attached buyer no matter what the price tag.
I wish I could say I was one of them, but short of winning the lottery, the most I can hope for is affording something 1/8 of that price.
My little stab at sarcasm was directed at the offering of these "special" cars as a side dish.
"Buy this near million dollar car and you have the priv of buying this special car too" psssftttt.
I am in total agreement that the hybrid will sell like a solar cooked hot cake. Great for Porsche and their buyers. That's what business is about yes?
My irk is this side offering of special spinach to go with the steak.
Fire the edition guy. That was funny...

i heard they have 1000 serious offers already. it´s pricey but look e.g. at the new Pagani Huayra.
it costs more than 1 mill. but does it offer something really special, sth. revolutionary?!
i think the price also reflects its unique status and how much Porsche invested in this technology.
i mean it's the first hybrid supercar.
kind of a revolution and owning one is like being part of a milestone.
it's Porsche's new halo car and i am sure they are putting a hell lot of work and money in it.
by the way, the 918 dealer info sheets:

Should at least have some wheels styled after the 918's, GT2 RS front fenders & bumper, special carbon fiber wing.........this is really a weak effort compared to the Sport Classic or new Speedster
yeah, but as u may have noticed they are offering it for the same price.
so not the biggest creativity but certainly no rip off, esp. for those interested in a 997TT-S anyway.
the speedster and classic was more limited and creative but also much more expensive.
they have gone BONKERS @ Porsche
less than 7:30 RING time the goal? WHAT!!!! the McLaren 12C rumored to do it in 7mins DEAD or LOWER WTF!!!!!
12C with options cost $250-275K
how does porsche justify over $850K when it can't even match GT2 RS RING time? WTF WTF WTF!!!!!!!!!

i will be seeking out 12C Spyder or GT/R (light wt EDITION-10s quicker RING time than 599XX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

) now that is a SUPERCAR!
i've LUV porsches since childhood but it's time to look else where
i would take lp700-4 (Aventador)+12C Spyder+italia in place of 918 Spyder!

$845K plus is a reasonable price IF the 918 Spyder can outperform a Veyron. I just don't see anybody spending $845K plus for car that can't compete with a used Veyron. The hp in the 918 Spyder is barely more than they new LP700 Lambo which runs about $400K or so. If the 918 Spyder has 750-775 hp and weighs 3000 lb. how will it compete with a 1200 hp Bugatti Veyron Gran Sport ? I think that Porsche bit off more than they can chew on this one unless the performance envelope is much stronger than previews indicate. Time will tell.

will it beat a standard 1001HP Veyron on str8s? no
will it beat a standard 1001HP Veyron on a track? yes
just like e.g. the Koenigseggs, Zondas, Gumperts, which aren`t that ridicilously fast to 60.
But the 918 will def. outperform a standard 1008hp Veyron on a track.
don`t know how it would compete vs a 1200Hp Veyron Supersport on a track, but that costs 3 times more (2.4mill) than a 918 anyway.
i think the 918 will post a number ~ 7:20min on the NS.
thats kinda screwed a dealer may have to buy special tools to fix these,
even though the people who buy them will most likely never even drive it.
seems like the big loser is the dealer who wants to sell this car.
