The Philosophy of Bolt-Ons and the TTs Driveability
The Philosophy of Bolt-Ons and the TTs Driveability
I'd like to do a few bolt-ons but I don't want to change the docile off-throttle nature of the car.
I thought I would do the typical intake, headers, and tune, but keep the factory turbo-back. Dollar for dollar, will the intake and headers be a complete waste if I keep the factory turbo back? If I refuse to touch the turbo-back, should I just do a reflash?
I'd also like to do some mild suspension work but want to keep the factory ride characteristics. Is there a lowering spring that has similar spring rates as factory? Are steering rods worth messing with?
Thanks,
SVTH.

General consensus is intakes are not worth a damn. Some are prettier than others, but no real gains to speak of.
Headers are a bit more controversial. Some think you can't improve on the OEM units. Others think there are gains to be had with higher hp applications. If you plan on doing just a tune, I wouldn't waste your money.
The mufflers should be the first thing you change, not the last, as they are the most restrictive area in the exhaust chain.
As far as springs, nothing will be as comfortable and 'squishy' as the factory springs/dampers. H&R's were a bit too jittery for me. Others swear by GMG springs (I believe they're Eibachs?) and sway bars.

Flash it, install some gmg springs, rss sways, dog bones, toe steer kit, maybe an ipd plenum and be done with it.
Intakes IMO not worth it. Skip the headers too. I would highly reconsider the exhaust, go europipe as it's not loud. Get a good alignment and your golden.

every season do some thing new with it !
add some more bolt on's and get a new feeling's
1st episode . lowering kit ,flash , and exhaust system
2nd episode . body kit PSS10 and new shoes
3rd episode . bigger turbos bigger injectors like a hard core power package
4th sell it

Whether its Sharkwerks, TPC, Champion or another high quality shop, talk to them. I ended up getting a flash and the TPC stage 3 suspension, then added EP2 and headers. Very happy, but it is a slipperly slope ( looking at intercoolers and turbos next, maybe).
I agree with what's been said so far. If you're adamant about not changing the factory turbo-back, I'd just do an ECU flash and call it a day. At those power levels, the factory exhaust manifolds are not really a limiting factor, but if you decided to upgrade down the road (specifically to larger turbos), then I would do them.
Honestly, best bang for buck would be to do a set of lowering springs, exhaust, and ECU flash. From those 3 things, you'll get the most "seat of the pants" noticeable improvement in the car. But I would definitely do the ECU flash and exhaust together, as the exhaust is definitely a restriction. Get a good one with 200 cel cats (like Tubi
), and the sound is great, not too loud at all, and emissions compliant.
