Yeh tell me about it Dave. So much for 15 bloody minutes. I think it was actually more than 2 hours from memory (ive tried to forget it)...could have been more like 2.5 hours. When i told Todd K about it the following day he said that was quite strange and after we discussed the spec of the computer i was using he did say he recalled some one else also telling him how it took them hours or so as well....so who knows how many its happened to? Why some things happen god knows.....thats why i dont screw around any more with low end machines....too risky. Even with a battery charger if you get that happen on a flash your a goner mate.. Anyway Todd said get a better machine so i did.
PS..even my IT guy was scatching his head how could take so long.

Was told when both the car and the PC are running off battery power you can expect such slow speed. If both were hooked up the whole operation should take about 10 min to complete. Reasons are both obvious and some not so. The PC (unless you have changed the power options would probably be running at a fraction of the CPU capacity and the car has to have steady power, battery is dying however the voltage has to be maintained level.

Re the cable, I bought it from a fellow 6speed'er who sold his 997 GT2 before using the Softronic. Didn't realize there was such a difference in cable "technologies".

nelsonmx is infamous around these parts
Hi all,

Just reading the thread.....Interesting indeed.

On Thursday I exported a 2008 TT...No issues. I was using an HP 1.66 GHZ with 3 Gig of RAM running XP 32 bit.

The whole process took about ten minutes. I had the lap top on ac power and the car on a charger at 2 amps. By the way my cable is of the latest generation. I just checked my Durametric kit and it's the latest as well.

Pureporsche: 86 minutes seems like a long time alright!! Looking at your lap top config, I suspect being on battery power may have slowed the transfer rates.....

At any rate when I get the new file it will be interesting to see how long the load takes.....

Also, I'm in Canada too....so maybe it's a trans boarder issue LOL

Bob

It should NOT take 86 minutes. Make sure your connection is good, firewalls down, etc.

Yes indeed, was confirmed by Scott - the 86 min was due to both car and laptop running on battery power.

Yup, still waiting to get the files back too, will brief once I get it back and transplant it to the beast. Nelsonmx - curious to know what you think once all is complete on your side.

I guess you were using an LAN? My very lengthy initial read was put down to using wifi....possibly not on full range...plus the computer was a few years old and @75% full....1.6GHz 2G ram. Car was on charger and laptop on AC power. There was really no reason for it to have taken so long however it did and the battery charger on the car battery obviously couldn't keep up which would have added to the problem. The read eventually went through though but following day when i did the flash load I used a LAN but something went wrong mid stream and the load froze. We put it down mainly to the computer as that wasnt changed at that point. ECU was bricked though. We couldnt recover it using that equipment. Since upgrading to a new laptop everything now happens in a jiffy. I did a recent read and it took @ 8 mins top and to flash load a file takes now 2 minutes max....but i always use LAN, battery charger on a full battery, AC to laptop....follow all instructions to a T....no margins fo error..
