Having owned a turbo car in my past and an M3 at that time, I loved the torque, the turbo whine and that kick in the back in the S14. The lack of torque and the need to go above 5k rpm to get some movement in the M3 didn't really appeal to me.

I'm just the average driver that enjoys a few DE's a year and I knew that I would never go out 10/10 on the track. (Search around for the track day insurance threads..)
So at the end of the day it was a pretty easy choice for me. Torque that would bring a smile to my face every time I step on it, street or track, or that extra something that you really need to be a great driver to appreciate on the track... I'd rather be the axe murderer rather than the ninja in this case
and there is some financial reasoning to it as well - the 996 GT2 was not going to depreciate a lot more compared to the 997 GT3 that would depreciate more. Some of this reasoning still applies to your dilemma I think..
I'm sure that once you drive the GT2 it will be game over for you too.
Yep. I am not one for chasing the newest and greatest, that's a game you never win. It becomes more enjoyable then more I become skilled at it, so the car would be a keeper. Because of this, I am spending time deciding. The fact it has taken a depreciation hit is a bonus but it also makes it easier to think of track mods... I admire a man who can tamper with a new car. My long term prognosis is that it won't rise in value financially but who cares. As long as I can look at it in the driveway, know that only the die hard appreciate it's performance and that I will never conquer it, then it's a winner. Like all things when you start being critical you start to notice it, your comment regarding RPM and lack of power with the M3 will probably be what I experience with my C4S compared to the GT2. Today I am collecting my car after a service, one spirited drive home and I am sure I will question why I need anything else. The Porsche mind is a strange beast.
