brake rotor help?

So its been 8 months since i changed my rear brakes and they are already done.
I plan to keep the car for another 2 years so at this rate i will go thru 2 maybe 3 more sets of brakes.

So i was thinking about getting the Girodisc rotors.

Anyone have these? If so what are your thoughts?

Do they truley last 3x as long as stocks?

-Sam

Unless you have driven a ton of miles (>30k) in the last 8 months or heavy tracking, it sounds like a brake issue.

well i hate to say due to the morality, but i drive as tho i am on a race track every day lol. So i dont think its a break issue(i go threw rear tires every 5 months or so), in addition i have put atleast 10k miles on the car since the brake change. I also changed my front brakes december-ish.

I am just wondering what makes more sense from an economical, keep changing stock brakes(keeping the car for about 2 more years hopefully) or upgrade to girodisc rotors for 2200 for the set of 4?

Keep with the stock, the giros will wear just as quickly.

this thread is actually very interesting, would love to hear more info on this.... also wondering, which aftermarket brake rotor/pad would most suggest (not interested in spending 6500 on a full kit w/ calipers and all)

Dumb question, but what about the front brakes? It sounds like the rears wear faster than the fronts, and if so, that just ain't normal. I may have just read it wrong.

Are you riding the brakes? 8 months is a very short lifespan for rear brakes. I agree with the previous post that you may have a brake issue.

If you drive 'hard', the psm kicks in and results in increased rear rotor wear.

exactly what Chris said. You are driving to a degree that the PSM is trying to constantly stabilize the extra yaw it is seeing. This happens a lot to not only 997 turbo drivers but also GT3 drivers on the track (even though they swear the GT3 has no PSM!). The key is to drive fast and smooth so your rears won't wear out as quickly.

I tend to drive with psm off quite often recently, could this reduce rear brake wear?

I have Girodisc rotors front and rear. I can't tell you if they last longer or not because I just don't drive the car a lot. What I can tell you is that it bites harder than stock.

Turn off the traction control for everyday reserved driving. Different rotors will not change anything. Track pads with higher friction will make matters worse.

I never turn the psm off, even at the track.

Possibly, but in our cars the PSM is re-initiated as soon as you activate ABS. The key is if you are driving hard enough to pitch the car around, with PSM off you might have an incident which is much more expensive to remedy than a set of rotors
