Looking for a good daily driver under $30K. Safety is a big factor for the sake of the family so I have been leaning towards SUVs.

I can't believe it but I have been looking into the Jeep SRT8 - never thought I would buy an American car and the inside reeks of rental car but its cheap and feels like a jacked up C63.

 

nothing at all wrong with American cars. they've come a long way. I may grab a chevy volt myself as a DD.

 

I have been very impressed after drving the new Jeep Grand Cherokee and it's cousin the Dodge Durango. Both are unibody vehicles based on the upcoming Mercedes ML platform. They are drastic departures from the typical domestic rental car

 

I own a 2008 Cherokee SRT8 (and a 2007 997 turbo!) I have had 46,000 trouble free miles, absouletely love my Jeep as DD. Only downside is economy (get 10 to 12 mpg city). Chrysler made these trucks with completely customized drivetrain, suspension, and Brembo brakes. Did u test drive one ?

Really? I guess my Cayenne was carved from balsawood.

Coolant pipes, drive shaft, coil packs, PCM LCD screen, air suspension faults, headlight interface just in the first year of used ownership...although I must say, I gave a Corvette a run for is money at the stop light last night.

 

Nice choices - that's the combo I'm shooting for myself. I drove it the other day along with a FX45. The inside of the Jeep was pretty rough but it drove excellent. The FX45 is by no means modern but has a better overall fit and finish - felt slow compared to the Jeep though.

 

Get a Hyundai, best bang for the buck and they rate high is safety rankings. Still a long way from Japanese esthetics and reliability, but their customer service is also rated pretty high. Only bad thing is, sometimes you would have to be seen in one

 

yup that's why my DD is a 2010 Elantra while I hedge funds for the 959 and 2012/13 911 Turbo.

 

Chevy Tahoe, bullet proof, big la z boy front seats, lots of room for the family and in your price range for an 08-09. A/C makes ice cubes, remote start standard etc.

My thoughts exactly. I may pick up the Volt when it becomes available here. I think it'll make a great DD for the wife hauling kids around town. Not having to fuel the thing much is kinda cool. I'm a EE, only makes sense for me

 

Volt is great if you don't need a heater, a/c or a defroster.......

 

I think you meant to say, that as additional accessories are turned on, like A/C or heat, the Volt's on battery driving range is reduced, thus firing it's gas engine sooner. Right?

 

I'd say a BMW, since your a porsche driver you will only get the "drivers" feel in a BMW, i just picked up an old e39 1997 528i for a daily driver and i love it
