Newbie Questions about DE Event at VIR
1. Some race shops sell an inexpensive temporary clear bra that you can install for the DE. It comes off afterwards and might be reusable a couple of times but I don't remember for sure. As long as you stay on the track and no one in front of you has an "off" and drags a bunch of crap back onto the track, you shouldn't have issues. The rubber gummy tire things that you'll pick up are easily removed when you get home. You also can put on about 10 rolls of blue painter tape all over the car but that looks really lame, imo.
2. I've never driven VIR, although I'd like to, but as long as you arrive with an open mind, listen to your instructor and pay attention, you should be fine. You own a great car, now you need to learn to really drive it and I give you kudos for getting with the program.
3. Insurance, as you've found out, is rather spendy and you probably won't need it; which is all well and fine until you do, of course. Personally, I'd go bare (that will also control your impulses to go Flat Out prematurely as well) and put the money towards more useful mods.
Hope that helps. Have a great experience!

Not familiar with VIR but you shouldn't see much cosmetic damage from a DE, if it's your first and in Novice group speeds are pretty tame
In a PCA event normally the instructor will do a few laps in YOUR car the first session.
He/She won't let you get too crazy but show you the line as they drive YOUR car and then coach you through the first session and beyond.
Mask off the edges with painters tape, don't go crazy, and enjoy the day.
When it's all over you'll wish you did it sooner.
As Steamboat said congrats on joining the program!

If this is a PCA sanctioned DE you have no worries. The chance of something happening in the green run group is highly unlikely. PCA runs a very strict program, centered around safety. Just be careful, have fun, listen to your instructor. VIR is a wonderful track, I can recommend a PCA instructor if you wish.
The notion that a Turbo is a bad combination on a high speed track is nonsense. The Turbo is a great track car with a lot of inherent safety built into it. Any track can be dangerous, be it VIR or a parking lot autocross, it's up to the guy behind the wheel.
One last thing, pose this question on Renntrack , it's more track oriented and quite a few of the VIR instructors hang out there and Rennlist.

^^What Doug said.
Consider the Porsche Sport driving School as well.
Keep in mind, those track day insurance companies share data with all the other insurance companies. If you go as a one time deal and never again, then next year your rates skyrocket......you'll know what happened. It did with a friend of mine.

VIR is a fantastic track for the Turbo. Even if you go off track (very unlikely) odds are that no harm will be done. I have been driving VIR for 4 years in PCA DE's and it is addicting. Go for it. It's what your Porsche was made for.
No, in this case, his home/auto/life rates all went up because he 'raced cars'. Eventually fixed, but it was a hassle.

EuroClassics Day at VIR
Every year EuroClassics (The Richmond Va Porsche Dealer) holds an event at VIR in October. This is a great day with plenty of track time. There are 3 classes, I forget what they are called, but they are really
1. Highway speeds
2. Novice
3. Expert
The 1st class is great if you want to just get out on the track, while they say the try to limit to Highway speeds, plenty of cars are going over 100mph. If you keep some distance between cars, you should not encounter any problems.
I think other clubs do the same thing, and this would be a great way to get your feet wet.
