Leave it stock? You must be joking.
Seriously, thanks for the input, I'm on the same page. just had to throw it out there.
In the end, it's a dealer specc'd car, ie not how I would do it. 150k is a lot of scratch to settle for somebody else's picks. I did that with my c4s, never again.
If anybody is looking, shoot me a pm, but I think they have a guy lined up already.
Another way to look at it...if this was 2002 instead of 2011, and I had a nice 993tt with 60k miles, would I be wise trading it in on a 2003 996tt tip/dealer specc'd ?

Keep yours, save a little extra

Keep yours, run it to 100k as your DD, save up some $$ and buy a GT3 just for the track.

The time clock has run too far toward 991tt now to make the change imho. With 60k miles you'll still have to dip the $tank a fair bit to get a decent .2 plus i think you're a little partial to the third pedal (and rightfully so). By the time 991tt is available whatever extra miles you've racked up in the meantime probably wont matter a great deal anyway to whatever hit you wind up taking. Maybe look at giving you current car a mini face lift with a new style of wheel or spoiler or something....to keep you interested in the meantime. Or do as others have suggested like trading it on a good used gt2 to see you clear for the next 18 months. Patience is a virtue .

The 997.1 had both :
a) the ideal platform to modify
and
b) the need to be tuned because it lacked so much stock.

The 997.2 is a very different beast . It comes very well equipped right out of the box (stock). It won't break the speed records of the tuned 997.1 cars but it will blow the doors off a stock to stock comparison.

I own a 2011 Turbo S and is has all the goodies and comes standard with the PDK. This car is a pleasant to drive as any luxury cruser. Tame, quiet and a perfect DD. (I have not seen snow yet and honestly don't plan to) Then if you press the gas-it comes alive proportionate to your pressure on the petal.

If you choose to shift it manually you have all the control of a 6 speed with the extra concentration to watch you "line" without worring about all the syncro/rev matching/ heal toe /bliping that is part of manual shifting. I have taken Skip Barber"driving School" when I had my M3. I know how to shift a 6 speed as good as anyone. I don't miss it one bit.

Then to ratchet the raw performance up to another level hit the sport mode button. The throttle re maps to extra sensitive, the gears get held longer into the rev range and the exhaust note get louder but not to uncomfortable levels (for me at least). I feel like I am at Universal Studios on the Incredible Hulk Roller Coaster only I am steering the beast.

PDK in summary-Quick, precise shifts, exactally then you want them with zero loss of boost. Period.

Guys, Michael Schumacker drives a flappy Paddle gear box for all the reasons mentioned above. Manual transmision are nice, Porsche makes one of the best, but I think the PDK is the wave of the super car future. It is that good. Purists may argue and neither of us is wrong. If that is your thing-Cool go for it. The more time I spend with the car, the more sure I am on the fact I made the right choice for me.

If your satisfied with you car in every way-60K is nothing on a well maintained P-car. The new 2012 will certianly cost a few $ in the exchange. For you, there is no "bad" alternative. You drive a super car already and from your post I know you enjoy the tires off of it! I think I read you take it to NYC every day. If that is right I would think the PDK wold be a welcome option. I don't DD my Turbo but I did my M3. The LIE was a PITA in traffic as is any 6 speed-right?

I ultimatly purchased my car in Roslyn, NY and it was a very pleasant experience. My sales guy was a cut above. If you have any specific questions on the car let me know. I am also in Nassau County.

one thing I noticed the PDK tt feels much heavier than the 6 speed 997.1tt during canyon switch backs or high speed turns IMO n of course the acceleration from a dead stop is devastating . he tells me he missed his 6 speed so he traded in for a white GT2RS. (BACK TO 6SPEED)LOL good luck for your decision

Replacing your turbo

Good Morning from Winnipeg,
I've been a bit of a lurker here. Got my first Porsche 2 years ago - a2004 Boxster - and have my CPO finished now and considering a new 2012 Boxster or a used 997. Had a chance to drive a 6 speed 2007 Turo last year and it is a beautiful car plus in my area awd would be an asset. I don't drive to work so I only want one car. Drove my Boxster in the winter and it worked superbly and saw a trubo out in the winter who seemed to be getting around just fine.
How do people here feel about buying one used and perhaps without a warranty? Personally I'd like a warranty but one needs to go through a dealer for the cpo. Local dealer (very small volume dealer but still very good) gets premium prices - recently sold a 2007 turbo for $100k.
Any thoughts. Pardon this rambling perhaps in the wrong area. Seriowsly looking for a replacement for my Boxster now that after 2 years of Porsche ownership I am hooked. Thanks,
Dave

c,
if you aren't feeling the new one then decision made...keep yours
if you have any thoughts on upping to a 2012 pdk then use this "deal" as an opportunity to order one to your specs making the same deal w/ the dealer

you gotta love it to spend the dough, esp with your commute

just my 2 cents

This. You have a tuned 997tt which should outperform a 997.2tt in every which way. Take the extra cash and get a different toy - Boxster Spyder, used Cup Car, 550 Spyder replica, 993 cabriolet, etc. You have options. Why dump more cash in for a shinier version of what you already have?

Good points all. Like I said, just not feeling it. Usually, 4 yrs into a car and I'm bored, this is clearly not the case with 'ole blue.
Plus the car was clearly optioned with zero thought, how do you not even get crests in the seats?
thanks all

PDK is perfect in terms of super quick shifts - nice for a track car but I would never get it on my DD. A bit boring and not involved at all. The 6 speed manual with short shift on my gen1 is just fantastic!
