Compression Testing
Compression Testing
I've seen a lot of folks advise doing a compression test during a pre-purchase inspection. I'm wondering:
1) How necessary is this on a <10k mile 997 Turbo?
2) How much do these generally run in terms of hours of labor? I'm getting wildly varying numbers.
Thanks,

I have never heard this done on a low mileage TT. Don't see any reason for it unless you suspect it was driven into the ground (in which case, you should walk away anyway) or it was heavily modded from day one. Routine PPI/DME scan should suffice.
They would have to access the spark plugs to do the test, most likely require an engine drop otherwise pretty straight forward. I wouldn't think this is necessary if the DME checks out fine but it does add another layer of thoroughness.
. Name names.....just one will do.
