Your advice for increasing HP

Hi all,

If you could only modify one component of a 997 TT to increase HP and torque substantially (> 25 units) AND wanted to spend less than $5K including installation, what would it be? Exhaust I'm assuming? New software? Although I'd love to start modding my car, I'm a little hesistant for fear of voiding the warranty and the CPO. Any thoughts?

As always, much appreciated...

ECU tune will give you the most HP increase. Exhaust will give you some HP and greatly improved sound. For $5000, you might be able to do both if you find yourself some good deals.

Exhaust and tune are like peanut butter and jelly. Each alone is good, but the combination is magical

Roger that... and one thing I will say about the exhaust in terms of sound it's very subjective and since he's in SoCal he should listen to a few different ones both inside and outside. One man's quiet is another man's headache so

Thanks Sharkster...do you know of any tuning shops I can check out in the Orange County, Ca area that have a decent showroom so I can check out how the different exhausts sound? Also, any word on what happens to the warranty once you do the exhaust and ecu upgrade?

Thanks

For $5K, you could get a tune and a used exhaust in great shape and that would give you the best bang for your buck.

The warranty is subject to opinion really...Some say do it and some will tell you not to...All depends on your dealer and how "mod" friendly they are...I've gone to one dealer and they told me my exhaust alone would void my warranty...Started taking my car to a new dealer and they've never said anything...They have only complimented on the sound of the car and how it looks... Can a tune void your warranty, Yes....Will it is another story...The dealer would have to look for it to void your warranty...Most dealers won't do that...

Are you in my area by the way (orange County)? If so, which dealer do you take it to?

Thanks

The tune could very likely cause issues if you have a major engine failure. P *will* require a DME dump for analysis before they will do the repairs. Some software vendors say their tune can be removed without a trace, could be. BUT if your car is in a position where you can't get to it to put the original tune back in, you're probably sunk. As far as other mods I doubt they'd look for the tune, and the exhaust can not void the warranty except on the exhaust. That's the law. As long as you don't mess with the cats or anything upstream you're covered.
