Fixed the hp factor! Tunes are monstrous on this car.

Yeah, the SL is a keeper. No intentions to sell. The turbo however offers a much more nimble experience in the twisties.

Unless I am getting this wrong the Turbo, configured with all the available performance options of the S, actually costs more not to mention the fact that the S has a couple goodies that you can't get on the standard Turbo.

I came within seconds of trading mine on a new pdk turbo. Test drove it three times, only problem, I always got right into my car and realized the pdk isn't for me.
The pdk turbo is a fast, torque monster for sure. the pdk is lightning fast......but something just doesn't seem right, can't explain it.

Turbo S!!!

I went through the same exercise 6 months ago and ordered a TT originally. By February, finally figured out with the option list I was getting, a TT-S even though is about 6-7k more, it was actually a much better value. So I called my dealer and switched the build to a TTS. (I am sure Porsche marketing was well aware of it too) Most of the 6speeders at that time were also recommending to look for a bare bone TTS instead of a loaded TT.

If you are getting PDK/Sports Chrono/PVT, it will really be a no-brainer. But if you want 6 SPD, it'll also be a no brainer.

Also, I was reading Total 911, the extra 30HP is not entirely from software, the CAM was supposed to be different. Also, the carbon fiber air box is really cool to look at. I found myself actually dusting it.

I own a turbo PDK and i love the PDK!! I don't know if there is much difference between the S and the normal turbo in terms of speed but i would have defiantly gotten the S if it was out at the time i got my car.

If u already have a auto-manual monster why not go a little "old school" and row some gears. Ferdinand would be proud!

Manual and flash. PDK is not for me but it's down to a personal choice.

If money is a concern, buy a lower spec TT with no PASM and steel brakes and spend the difference on suspension, exhaust and an ECU flash. It'll be a better car than the TTS in my opinion.

If money is no concern, get the TTS for the PDK and the TT for the manual.

My advice: Get a TT (preferably manual) and use the difference you saved on suspension, exhaust and ECU flash. Trust me, you'll need these upgrades.

My choice: Fully loaded manual TT, suspension, ti exhaust and sway bars. And am looking at ECU and intake next.

I'm not looking for power (I want handling) but from my research on the forums, the manual can handle more HP than the PDK if you decide to upgrade to bigger turbos If that's something you wanna do. Don't quote me on this cause I don't know what I'm talking about. Just what I read.

Either way, you'll be getting an awesome car and you'll love whichever car you decide to get.

Good luck! I had the same dilemma a year ago and looking back, I couldn't have made a wrong choice.

I had a 2009 TT 6 speed and now have the S. I agree with what everyone has stated so far, here are some thoughts.

1) If you can afford a new S, chances are great you will only keep the car a couple of years, then upgrade to something else.

2) 75% of all 2011 Turbos made are S, how many are currently available? I see more Reg Turbo's than S on the lots, so this should tell you something about resale.

Another vote for 6 speed manual. Especially with the short shifter! I love it.

Re-reading your post, it seems like the TT you found is a very lightly loaded 6sp since you are implying that it is a $140kish car? (20k cheaper than a TTS) If you like 6sp, the choice will be simple since there is no 6 speed in TT-S. But do you really want a barely loaded TT without Sports Chrono or PTV?

Any considerable power differences in sprited road driving between the the two? Any input appreciated.

I had a chance to buy a 996 Turbo S in 2005 that the dealer was practically giving away, Still kick myself, the S models are always a pretty good deal on the options.

I have been looking at this. According to this video the real life street driving difference seems to be insignificant. Does anybody have a different opinion ?
