Taillight happy, white smoke sad

Oh what a bittersweet day it's been.
Today I received my Dectane LED lights from Germany (thanks Stef!). They are great, even my wife gave them two thumbs up.

When we cranked the car up to back it out of the garage two huge clouds of white smoke came from the exhaust pipes. I mean big clouds of smoke. I backed the car all the way out and turned it off. A few minutes later I cranked up the car again and there were no clouds of white smoke. The car is CPO'd, hasnt been tracked or driven very hard. I just got the thing a couple of weeks ago. It has around 25k miles on the OD. Is this normal for a 07 turbo, or is it a sign of a serious problem?

Definitely can happen from time to time and there are many threads about it. I've found that driving the car easy for several minutes/miles before pulling into the garage is must, especially after getting into, and I avoid short trips where things don't get a chance to get to temp. Always check to ensure the oil isn't over filled as well.

Enjoy the leds, it's a great upgrade (IMO) for our cars.

I have about the same mileage on mine and can confirm you that it happens from time to time. It's nothing to be worried about.

It's normal but there is a reason for it. The white smoke on a cold or relatively cold start up is unburned fuel. Mine hasn't done it for a long time now being winter here at present. In the colder months it doesn't seem to happen at all but once the weather warms up you will get the odd day when it happens. I put it down to fuel leak off from the injection system that rests in certain cylinders closest to the leaking injector/s. Why there is leak off in hot weather may be due to a few things. And why some cars do it more than others is also due to a few things as well. When the catalytic converters are not at operating temperature which allows them to arrest the unburnt fuel by burning it up prior leaving the tailpipes the smoke becomes visible to the eye. If the smoke is blue, then it indicates oil, but again if the converters were hot they would also arrest the majority of the smoke. Oil (blue smoke) generally indicates a separator issue or other problems associated to engine wear.I find in summer or in warmer weather if you idle the car down for 30 seconds or a bit more the frequency will not be as great. I believe in that process any residual fuel is burnt off prior to shutdown. I wouldn't spend too much time idling down though. Too much idling is not good. Much more than a minute is really not necessary unless the car has come in from a few hot laps, then maybe 1 to 2 minutes...but no more.

I figured it probably wasn't serious but was concerned enough to run to my PC and post the question Thanks for the replies. I am back to just being smitten with my new leds. Next is ordering an EP1 exhaust...
