Need Help: Key Problems.. 997.2 Turbo S

Hey guys, Recently I purchased and installed the Softronic tune from Switzer... The car was fast before but after the tune the car is an absolute beast!!

However, my second key stopped working after the flash. I can't unlock or lock the doors and when the key is placed in the ignition I can turn it but it will go into "ON" accessory mode nor will the car start...

Does anyone else has this issue after installing the softronic tune?

If it's not the softronic tune, the dead battery in they key would not stop the car from starting.....

I guess what I'm asking is does anyone else have the softronic tune on the car with both keys working? I guess it makes sense that only the one in the ignition while you are updating the ECU with the new tune file would work..... I know there is no way a dead battery in the key would stop the car from starting, that would be extremely poor design...

One more question too, Should I put the stock map back on the car before I take it in to the dealership for the second key to get reprogrammed or is it not a big deal? I would just hate to put the stock map back on and then go home put the tune back on and the key doesnt work again?

Does your remote door opening/trunk opening still work?

If so, then the problem is that your car has somehow "forgotten" the ID transmission code contained in the crystal that is glued into the internals of your key.

You will either need PIWIS or a programming device (Durametric does not do this) to reprogram the car.

Should I just let the dealer reprogram it with the tune still on the car this time? I have a feeling it was caused from rewriting the ecu.... Cant find anyone else with this problem though on the boards and im assuming the softronic tune is pretty popular.

I tried to call to ask softronic but they kept pushing me off to switzer, I dont know why she couldnt just help me real quick because the guys at switzer don't know and it's not their fault. lol

Just checked the spare key and the battery is still good. It lights up just doesn't work or start the car....

Did your 2nd key ever work? Mine was accidentally not programmed when I took delivery of my TTS. I had no idea if didn't work 'til weeks later as I never used it!

One of my keys similarly lost its programming. After much trial and error I found these instructions that worked for me. Follow these steps exactly and see if the key programming comes back;

1. Lock the doors from the outside by using the key in the door lock.

2. Unlock the drivers side door using the key in the door lock.

3. Within about 10 seconds or so, open the door and insert the key into the ignition. DON'T START THE CAR!!

4. With the key still in the ignition, push the unlock button on the key

Jonnydeep83 is infamous around these parts
FYI, my key randomly stopped unlocking the doors remotely from the Key fob unit on my Key #1 (key #2 worked fine) last time I picked my car up from the dealership. I replaced the battery in it and still had no luck. I tried the steps below and my Key #1 started working again. Thanks! Saved me a trip to the dealership. I have a 2007 997.1TT Tip. Guess it works on those too.

As others have suggested, I think you are looking in the wrong area. The PAS system controls whether or not the key is recognized. When you flash the DME it has nothing to do with it at all. I do not think a tune can even cause this problem at all.

I once had an issue on my wife's Boxster S and I actually completely removed the DME/ECU and disconnected everything in the car to no avail. I removed and reset the PAS system...and reprogrammed the key as suggested above and it has been fine since. The key may still open doors and hood, etc., and the car won't start and ignition will not disengage when you have this condition.

Good luck,
DC
