Best Clutch
Best Clutch
Quick poll for those with aftermarket clutches...
I currently have a ClutchMasters Stage 3 with lightweight alum flywheel. I've never liked the engagement point (really high) nor the difficulty in keeping revs while the clutch engages from a standstill. Once moving, this clutch is actually awesome. Because of the high engagement point, my shifts are faster b/c I barely even have to depress the clutch pedal to disengage it. Also, the LWFW makes rev-matching much easier.
I think this clutch is perfect for a car that sees more track time. Being that I daily drive it alot though, I'm looking for a better compromise. I have the EVT700 upgrade on my car so I need something that'll handle the extra power. I'm thinking about dumping the alum flywheel too to make street starts easier. My first guess is that the Sachs 2.5 kit is more what I'm looking for in a street setup. Is there an easier (ie cheaper) way to modify what I already have or am I just going to have to dig deep and spend the cash?
Thanks!

Is that the Stage 2, 2.5 or 3? Did you keep the OEM flywheel?
yes I kept the OEM flywheel, and I ordered the clutch direct from Sachs in Germany, this is the part detail:
The clutch disc is without springs and is called the Performance clutch, race engineering 280 D ABW 091, 881864001098, and is a brand new model with progressive feel like the OEM.
The pressure plate, called the clutch cover, is GMF Z 240, 883082999764.
E mail them directly. I got my parts within 8 weeks of Pay pal payment. Great customer service and the VAT and delivery was included, only $36. for duty.

I had posted in another thread about a year ago about getting a custom slave rod pin to change the engagement point and do a GT2 slave conversion. Out of curiosity, did you give these a try?

Here is an update on the Sachs Performance clutch. I went to the SSCC event last weekend and competed in the 1/2 mile shootout. Only a 1500hp Viper beat me and the clutch performed perfectly, no slippage with full throttle in all gears! I came in 2nd, beating a ZR 1 and another Viper, with a trap speed at 1/2 mile of 153 mph

Nice! I've already given the shop the go-ahead to install the Sachs2.5 with a new LWFW. I already have a LWFW on the Stage 3 Clutchmasters clutch but I just don't want to risk anything going wrong. I can't wait. The shop tech keeps telling me that I'm missing out on the truly amazing daily-driving experience of this EVT700.
BTW, what performance mods do you have to be beating a ZR1?
Erp
There is a new clutch out mfg by RPS under the name of ERP. I have used RPS for 6-7 years in my vettes with excellent results. Buying a clutch is very difficult as everyone "sells the best". The performance, technology, and superior customer service WILL place ERP well ahead of everyone in coming years. They can be found at Champion. I installed one on my newly built GT2. the holding power is ~ 1100 ft# on a triple but has 1/2 the peddle pressure is that of a double.

Just got the car back with the Sachs 2.5 clutch and LWFW. What a complete transformation. I can actually roll out w/o even having to apply gas. I could NEVER do that with the Stage 3 Clutchmasters. Engagement point is also much closer to OEM. Less chatter from the LWFW as well. Very happy with this new clutch.
For those that don't know, the Clutchmasters Stage 3 can have an 8-puck. That's what mine had. Not good for the daily driver. Excellent for those heavily tracking their cars.
