CA Smog Question

Hello all, well finally got my 997 TT. In short the car is amazing. Look for a detailed summary/pics and my take on the car once I get the car registered.

Anyways have searched forum regarding tunes/exhaust and the pesky CA smog requirements.

The car is currently running a 93 Softronic tune with Tubi Street (200Cell).

Found a local smog center that will run a test for 17.95. What are my chances of passing, or should I upload the stock file before going in. Other than that I'm aware of getting the car nice and warm before the test.

Thanks for the input.

I would love a response on this too. One of the things that's been keeping me from upgrading the exhaust and tune is a) passing smog and b) noise pollution tickets.

Verify your softronic tune has NOT disabled the post cat oxygen sensors BEFORE going in for the test. If it has, you may fail for that reason alone.

The 997TT is a very clean car to begin so provided the cats are up to snuff you should pass fine.

This sounds similar to what I had to do in Denver. Texas is much different.

Thanks Gmoney, I sent an email to Softronic. Anyone have any recommended shops in the SF area?

Another note, the car cam from PA, I believe PA has adopted CA emissions requirements, can anyone confirm this?

I don't know if my experience is completely relevant here -- but I have the EVOMSit flash (stock exhaust) and I just had to get my first CA smog check the other day. No problems at all. In fact, the readings came out zeros for HC and CO (maybe the machine was broken ). Better than my Honda minivan! And correct -- with AWD, not dyno/roller required. Just the sniffer.

Sounds promising, I think I'm going to take the risk and go find a place in Pleasanton somewhere and hope for the best. Otherwise I'll just upload my stock tune.

run it hot

Make sure your car has run for a while so the exhaust is hot. I smogged my 05TT with a Giac chip. no problems.

Had the smog done today at a small shop in Livermore recommended by Livermore Porsche. Both shops are great highly recommened and mod friendly. So bottom line is she passed, the car was warm but I did not beat on her hard prior to the test.

Numbers
HC(PPM)
Measured 38 @ Idle(Max allowed is 100) and 60 @ 2500RPM(Max allowed 130)
CO(%)
Measured .02 @ Idle(Max allowed is 1.00) and .75 @ 2500RPM(Max allowed 1.00)

Pretty close on the CO measurement on throttle but happy she passed!

Glad to hear you were successful. I have to go back and look at my numbers again -- I don't understand how I got 0.0 across the board. Clearly, there's a lot more room for some mods!
