My guide on how to buy a used 997tt
For privacy issues you won't find many dealers willing to release maint. Records. Best bet is to ask previous owner if a private party sale.
Indeed, thanks to the OP for a thoughtful write-up.
This is a great post and potentially the best thread I've seen in a car forum to slice through confusion & educate a newbie (like myself). Spot-on!
I own a 355 & have had 2 SMG M3's, and now an E63 perf. pkg. car.
Always wanted a 911TT as a DD & now the search begins...

Bump for a great thread. - I figure i'd post this here first before creating a new thread.
I've been on the CPO inventory and have found a few cars that could work for me. My local dealer has a 2008 that i'm really not too interested in. When I went in to discuss getting a 997tt they just kept trying to push me into the 2008 on the lot even though I was firm that I don't want a black car.
I have a 2008 Cayman S that I would really rather trade in then sell private, but all the CPO vehicles I want are far out of state. What the best course of action? Should I work with the remote dealers and arrange private shipping? (And then try to sell my Cayman private?) or is there some cross-dealer shipping program for CPO vehicles?
Great thread!

Did you buy it sight unseen? pictures and phone calls were good enough?
I spent the last 3 weeks compiling DME data on CPO and non-CPO 997.1tt MT coupes. There are a few great cars in Colorado Springs and Huston -- but I found my in Pittsburgh. I took a rental car one way on Saturday from NJ 400 miles and drove back the same day. 16 hours of fun!!
My suggestion is to continue to call Porsche dealers .. and leave your name/number if they don't have anything you like. The adventure of finding the car(s) is half the fun.

Correct and correct for pdk .... porsche has had technology to block deadly 2nd gear shifts at speeds over 75 in their 6-speeds, but has refused to introduce it until this pdk. Porsche engines are interference engines, meaning pistons hit valves (cannot happen with huge HP US engines) if an overrev occurs, that is, the rear wheels turning at high speed mechanically force pistons to contact valve-head surfaces. This mechanical overrev is not influenced by rev-limiter and cost can be in the $10K-20K region. You can run your car into a tree and insurance covers repair, you can run the car into a lake and it is covered, but overrevs are "driver's fault" and are not covered by warranty or insurance. I guess if the car ends up in a lake, that is not driver's fault as much as an overrev.
This overrev biz is one major set-back in owning a mechical 6-speed. That extremely high-cost mistake is forever present especially in a panic situation where you might thing about using the transmission to help brake the car. This use of the transmission is forbidden in cars with interference engines.

I bought mine from a dealer in FL and shipped to Houston. Had them take a number of hi res photos and it was CPO. Thought about flying out and driving home, but didn't want to push my luck with the boss anymore than I already had.
