Brake noise problem

997.2 Turbo

Ok, I just installed the Hawk HPS pads today and now when I come to a complete stop and let off the brake pedal, I hear a popping sound. I re-installed the pads twice and still the same problem. I believe it is from the pads have too much play or the spring is not holding the pads in place correctly. Will this go away once the pads seat them selves?

Also, I have been noticing a ticking sound when I am driving, once I apply the brakes, the ticking gets faster.

Does anyone have any idea as to what these noises might be?

If the ticking gets faster with road speed then its probably a small pebble stuck between guard and rotor or caliper and rotor. try reversing and apply brakes - otherwise it will probably remove itself eventually. with regard to the popping - not obvious - but could be pads moving within their space in the caliper. If the cars braking is ok and very smoothe with minimal pedal travel then it may just be the pads. sometimes non stock pads can be noisy, but does not necessarily spell a problem. This brings back memories - I was a car and truck brake field engineer some 25 years ago.

Thank you for your reply. I also believe it is the pads moving freely in the calipers. I can actually move the pads up and down. It shouldn't move at all from what I was told. Anyway, I just ordered ECB red stuff pads today. Will give them a try and see if the fitment is better.

Also, I couldn't find any rock debris near the rotor. The noise is very odd. The car has a ticking noise (not sure if its from the rear or front), but you can only hear it when you drive next to a car or wall. When I apply the brakes, even slightly, the noise gets faster.

Ticking gets faster when brake is applied. - mmm! - sounds like an engine noise. Applying the brake uses up vacuum in booster - this may cause a slight increase in engine revs as air is drawn into manifold ( I assume that b/booster connects straight to manifold).

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. It may well be just the engine. I just started noticing this most recently, mainly because I haven't driven much with the windows down (Las Vegas heat). The sound is very similar to a 10 speed bike when peddling backwards. You can only hear it when the windows are down and riding next to something where the sound can bounce off. Its just odd that the sound increases rapidly when brakes are applied. Goes away at slow speeds (slowing down).
