Thanks for the complements, everyone.

mozhacker, I didn't pick the interior colors knowing it would match. I wish I had the kind of foresight! We went the other way around. The car had the color interior I wanted and the shop did all it could to match the system with the interior. The took great pains to match the silver color of the box to the aluminum already in the interior, and ordered the leather from Porsche to ensure, as much as possible, that the "Carrera Red" was matched.

I'm not sure what stock wattage is on the Bose system. On the new system, its just over 2000W before too much distortion would set in. The audio shop limited the volume so that the system couldn't be pushed to the point of hurting the speakers. They also took steps to upgrade the battery, electrical wiring and connections to the alternator, and ground to ensure the electrical system could handle the extra wattage.

That custom box with silver trim looks really awesome against the red interior.

I know watts aren't everything but what's your new setup compared to stock? Stock is like 235w right?

+1 Mike - thks for the info

That is one monster system, pretty sure stock premium Bose in current turbos like one I just got is ~235watts

Just learned something new though that may encourage me to do a bit less but also custom sound system mod - till you just posted above I had no idea sound shops could order the leather from Porsche to make sure any trim they put in perfectly matches your original color. Big wow, self doh! - why didn't I know that?

Nice! Very good install job.

I can just never get myself to let anyone take my car apart. I mean I know they know what they are doing but at the end of the day, the installer isn't a P car tech so I have to conclude that they may not know exactly how to install panel X correctly and tightly to ensure absolutely no rattle. It does take a P car professional to build the thing right? Then why wouldn't take a pro to rebuild the car? I have seen, rather heard, Bentleys, Lambos and F cars rattle because some parts are just not designed be taken off and put back on again.

In a Honda or Toyota OK but not in P car.

Just my opinion.

What happened to the OEM PCM unit/DVD player you pulled out?
I'd be interested in it.

Honestly, I had a lot of trouble with that also. This is my 4th Porsche, and the very first that I've had the cojones to mod in any way. I spent quite a bit of time researching and getting to know not only the owners of the shops I was considering, but the actual installers that would be working on the car.

I also asked for pictures and references from the individuals that had the work performed on their Pcars. THAT was the key step for me as they provided me with the necessary "feel good" about the people installing the stereo.

In the end I am still risking a rattle here or there, but my fears were assuaged enough for me to take the calculated risk. Now I'll have to go through the same process for intake, exhaust and chip tune!

: )
