PASM failure, second time in a month

I have a 2012 911 Turbo and have gotten the PASM failure code for a second time in a month.
The car goes into a limp home mode, brakes, suspension, throttle contol are all affected.
I only have 3100 miles on the car, being the second time this has happend, im really concerned about long term realiabilty.
The first time they said it was a loose wire on the loom.
I did some searching, but there were a varity of problems on different models.
Anybody else have this problem?
It made me sick to see my dream car being towed away.

Also the car never seem to handle all that great to me. I came from a 09 Corvette ZO6, and many of the same country roads I've driven on my vette, I can't push nearly as hard on the Turbo. The front seems to want to wonder or weave in the apex, where the vette would just be planted. I also have a Boxster and it handles the corners just fine.
Could something be wrong with the Turbo's computer affecting the handling?

Sorry about all the bad news, I want to make this car work. But for the money it got to work damn good.

first thing you should do when picking up a porsche is get it aligned by a company who knows them well. However it sounds like your troubles could also be effecting the handling if its a PASM issue.

The driving style needs to change from a Vette and Boxster, but both those cars are going to handle as good and perhaps generate better feel than the Turbo. Go GT2 or GT3 to be blown away with the feel handling wise...or start throwing suspension mods at the Turbo.

Thanks for the good input.

I just got off the phone with the tech, and good news, I think.
He said I have a bad front right strut. It may also be why the car is not handling so good. The PASM was working on all the other shocks, but not on the
right front.
So that would explain why the car never handled so good.

My take is the turbo is a poseur car for going to the country club as it comes from the factory. Check out a number of threads regarding suspension and you'll see all is not lost. A good number of us turbo owners have modified the suspension on our cars to the extent that they handle almost as well as a GT3. It ain't cheap, but it does make a much better car for the enthusiast. A good place to start is search through the threads authored by "CANNGA". He is very thorough in his analysis of the various ways a person can make this car into a handler.

I thought a bilstein setup was fairly cheap? Unless I'm remembering wrong thought it was something like $2.5k

Relative to everything else we can mod, under $3k seems to be pretty cheap to me to fix the suspension on our turbos to what it ought to have been.

3-4k installed will get you set up nicely with a number of suspension parts for the turbo.

Yes, $2500 for the Bilstein coilovers plus installation labor and alignment, but you'll probably want better sway bars and drop links with wheels that have a greater offset. All said and done I believe I have $7500 into it. If that's cheap for you I highly recommend it.

Keep in mind that the car handles differently. You need to tap the brakes going into a turn to set the front or you will get understeer, even with the fixed struts. So, easy in, but you can really get on the throttle on the way out. Much more than you ever could with the Vette. Your exit speeds can be incredible. But it is a different way to drive. Part of the fun is learning what it takes!

Good point, and a good place to start the learning process is at the Porsche Driving School at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, AL. What better way to learn the handling of a Porsche than with top notch instructors and Porsche cars (their tires their gas)?

PASM failure must be frustrating. As these cars become fraught with technology, I think these systems that make the car such a great dual purpose vehicle now, may hurt resale as they age... not a real concern with some of the older models. But that's progress... Smoke em while you got em! That's what these cars are all about anyways!

I'm no track pro, but when you start to get the feel for it, you can plant the rear and put power down coming out of turns like in no other car.

+1 for PSDS, no better way to learn these cars. You will see what a bone stock 911 is capable of , it'll make you rethink a lot of mods. The guys down there will tell you the cars burn through a set of sport cups during a 3 day school, so you definitely pay for the tires

I finally got my car back the other day. It had a bad right front strut, so that explains the poor handling. The strut was not communicating with the PASM.
they also did a alignment, drove the car, let it sit overnight and checked the alignment again.
They also changed out the ECU and DME.
The car feels so much better now, I can hammer the corners and it just tracks firm and planted.

Glad to hear it worked out for you Mig7410.

Hummm3: I am going to check those threads out like you said but do you really think the stock suspension on the turbos is that horrible?
