Is buying a non-CPO 997.1 Turbo smart?

I had a 6 speed in my 996 and now have a tip. I wiould never go back to a 6 speed. I can just plant my foot and Go GO GOGOGOGOGOGOGO.
The only thing I miss was being able to rev the engine but that is childish and I will leave that for the Toy-yodas.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I went to Autogallery Porsche in CA (Ventura Blvd), and they had a few Turbos. All the black ones were newer and hovering at/over $100K.

The Meteor Grey one was nice. It was listed as a CPO online, but once I got there, they removed the certification. Apparently body panels were repainted and CarFax shows an accident in Florida. It was having it's water pump replaced when I got there. Listed for $81K, but I said unless the car is hovering near $60K, I'm not interested. No warranty, but I'm still able to purchase the Easy Care one.

Anyway, just for curiosity, he's checking with Porsche of Orlando to see what the repair was (they did the repair).

I think I'm willing to go a little higher on my budget to find a car I love. Thanks again guys, will keep looking.

Go out to the Porsche website and search for a used car. You can check CPO as a search criteria.
We ever you do don't settle for something. Just wait. The right car will appear.

Shamoo,
I know the feeling. I was torn between a 997.1 TT on the west coast and one at my local dealer. I couldn't find any others in my criteria. The dealer was CPO, but the other had some sweet mods (werks1, wheels, interior...) and it was for about 5K less. I don't have endless pockets and was not going to have the luxury of numerous aftermarket mods. The dealer pulled the VIN and checked all the records of the west coast care in front of me. There were no major discrepancies, but he warned that CARFAX is only useful if the original owner is A) Honest and B) Doesn't have the income to hide repairs. Meaning that if I trash my .1 TT out in town or back it into the tire at the track, then I am forced to utilize insurance which would document the repairs. Otherwise, if I had more income then I could completely hide the incident and fix out of pocket. Bottom line: He sold me on the fact that CPO is warrantied by Porsche which takes all of the haggle away from the dealership to fix it since they are going to get paid and it doesn't come out of their bottom dollar. Not to mention, I didn't have the time or the means to fly out to the west coast to go test drive or view this car in person which is fairly risky site unseen investment. I bought the CPO from my local dealer and got the **** star treatment. It was well worth the piece of mind and relationship established. Those are often some intangibles that you can't associate with the price tag. Best of luck.

I would also not limit your search to just local cars. Flights can be cheap and the drive home is AWESOME!!!
+1 on this idea. Have owned many cars and only 1 was purchased locally. For the most part I make my purchases on Ebay. If I were going to buy a used Porsche I would obtain an independent PPI no matter what. That would make location much less of an issue. The long drive home in a new car is one of my favorite experiences possible.
